Hybrid modeling, HMM/NN architectures, and protein applications [PDF]
We describe a hybrid modeling approach where the parameters of a model are calculated and modulated by another model, typically a neural network (NN), to avoid both overfitting and underfitting.

The Unusual Species Cross-reactivity of the Leukemia Inhibitory Factor Receptor α-Chain Is Determined Primarily by the Immunoglobulin-like Domain [PDF]
Human leukemia inhibitory factor (hLIF) binds to both human and mouse LIF receptors (LIFRs), while mouse LIF (mLIF) binds only to mouse LIFRs. Furthermore, hLIF binds with much higher affinity to the mouse LIFR (mLIFR) alpha-chain than does mLIF itself.

Immunofluorescent Examination of Biopsies from Long-Term Renal Allografts [PDF]
Immunofluorescent examination of open renal biopsies revealed clear-cut glomerular localization of immunoglobulins not related clearly to the quality of donor-recipient histocompatibility in 19 of 34 renal allografts.

Glyco-biomarkers: Potential determinants of cellular physiology and pathology [PDF]
Once dismissed as just the icing on the cake, sugar molecules are emerging as vital components in life’s intricate machinery. Our understanding of their function within the context of the proteins and lipids to which they are attached has matured rapidly,

The subunit and polypeptide-chain structure of rabbit secretory immunoglobulin A. Isolation of a proteolytic fragment suitable for sequence studies on the variable region of α-chain [PDF]
A method was developed for the preparation of a proteolytic fragment of rabbit secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) which contains the variable region of the alpha-chain; this fragment is suitable for primary-sequence studies. The serologically defined subclasses of sIgA are shown to correlate partially with the nature of the binding of a constituent ...

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Review: ‘Gimme five’: future challenges in multiple sclerosis. ECTRIMS Lecture 2009 [PDF]
This article is based on the ECTRIMS lecture given at the 25th ECTRIMS meeting which was held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 9 to 12 September 2009. Five challenges have been identified: (1) safeguarding the principles of medical ethics; (2) optimizing the

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

The lysine residue in the membrane-spanning domain of the beta chain is necessary for cell surface expression of the T cell antigen receptor. [PDF]
The TCR is a complex receptor composed of seven polypeptide chains consisting of a ligand-binding subunit, Ti, and a putative signal-transducing subunit, CD3.
