Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Are Specific Immunoglobulin (IgE and IgG) and Tryptase Levels Correlated with the Severity of Allergic Reactions in Patients with Bee Venom Hypersensitivity?

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacopuncture
Objectives: This review aims to evaluate the clinical utility of specific immunoglobulins (IgE and IgG) and serum tryptase levels as biomarkers for predicting allergic reaction severity in patients with bee venom hypersensitivity.

Immunoglobulin E, Interleukin-18 and Interleukin-12 in Patients with Atopic Dermatitis: Correlation with Disease Activity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2015
Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder. Immunological/inflammatory reactions are reported to play a role in AD but their role in disease activity has not been fully investigated. This study was done to investigate

Agarose gel serum protein electrophoresis in cats with and without lymphoma and preliminary results of tandem mass fingerprinting analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Serum electrophoretic profiles in cats are poorly characterized with respect to the protein components of the globulin fractions, and interpretation of the electrophoretograms has routinely been done in ignorance of the ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Immunofluorescent Examination of Biopsies from Long-Term Renal Allografts [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Immunofluorescent examination of open renal biopsies revealed clear-cut glomerular localization of immunoglobulins not related clearly to the quality of donor-recipient histocompatibility in 19 of 34 renal allografts.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...
