Viral Reservoirs in Lymph Nodes of FIV-Infected Progressor and Long-Term Non-Progressor Cats during the Asymptomatic Phase. [PDF]
BackgroundExamination of a cohort of cats experimentally infected with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) for 5.75 years revealed detectable proviral DNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) harvested during the asymptomatic phase, undetectable

The Putative Role of Human Peritoneal Adipocytes in the Fight against Bacteria: Synthesis of the Antimicrobial Active Peptide DEFA1-3 [PDF]
Background: Spontaneous peritonitis is a rather rare event, even in peritoneal dialysis (PD). As defensins are natural antimicrobial peptides, we hypothesized that adipocytes as the major constituents of the omentum could play an important role in ...

In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

Epithelium segmentation using deep learning in H&E-stained prostate specimens with immunohistochemistry as reference standard [PDF]
Prostate cancer (PCa) is graded by pathologists by examining the architectural pattern of cancerous epithelial tissue on hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained slides. Given the importance of gland morphology, automatically differentiating between glandular epithelial tissue and other tissues is an important prerequisite for the development of automated ...

Snake and spider toxins induce a rapid recovery of function of botulinum neurotoxin paralysed neuromuscular junction [PDF]
Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) and some animal neurotoxins (-Bungarotoxin, -Btx, from elapid snakes and -Latrotoxin, -Ltx, from black widow spiders) are pre-synaptic neurotoxins that paralyse motor axon terminals with similar clinical outcomes in patients.

Immunohistochemistry for diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer: a review
Breast cancer is the most prevalent malignant tumor and main oncologic cause of mortality in women. Although most diagnosis of breast pathology is accomplished using hematoxylin and eosin stained sections, some cases require immunohistochemistry for ...
