COVID-19 Vaccination in People Living with HIV (PLWH) in China: A Cross Sectional Study of Vaccine Hesitancy, Safety, and Immunogenicity

open access: yesVaccines, 2021
The administration of COVID-19 vaccines is the primary strategy used to prevent further infections by COVID-19, especially in people living with HIV (PLWH), who are at increased risk for severe symptoms and mortality.

Gut microbiota alterations in patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigated the impact of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on the gut microbiota in patients with locally advanced non‐small‐cell lung cancer. Overall gut microbiota composition remained largely stable throughout CRT while antibiotic exposure may influence microbial diversity.

Immunosuppressive Therapy for Active Lymphocytic Myocarditis [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 2003
Background— The beneficial effect of immunosuppressive treatment on myocarditis is still controversial, possibly because the immunologic and virological profile of potential candidates is largely unknown.

Hydrostatic pressure activates HIF‐1α via β‐catenin to promote stemness in breast cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
To mimic the elevated intestinal fluid pressure in breast cancers, we loaded human breast cancer cells (MCF‐7, MDA‐MB‐453, and BT‐474) to 50 mmHg hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure exposure upregulated HIF‐1α and induced stemness in MCF‐7 and BT‐474 cells.

Treatment with KCL‐286, a first‐in‐class retinoic acid receptor‐β (RARβ) agonist, ameliorates neuronal DNA damage and inflammation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Repair of neuronal DNA damage in Alzheimer's disease by KCL‐286. (A) Amyloid‐β oligomers and plaques impair neuronal DNA repair pathways, leading to DNA double‐strand breaks and glial activation. (B) KCL‐286 activates RARβ/RXR signalling via retinoic acid response elements (RAREs), associated with increased BRCA1 expression, enhanced DNA repair and ...

Research progress on the immunological functions of Piezo1 a receptor molecule that responds to mechanical force

open access: yesInternational Immunopharmacology
The human immune system is capable of defending against, monitoring, and self-stabilizing various immune cells. Differentiation, proliferation, and development of these cells are regulated by biochemical signals. Moreover, biophysical signals, such as mechanical forces, have been found to affect immune cell function, thus introducing a new area of ...

How to properly define immunological nonresponse to antiretroviral therapy in people living with HIV? an integrative review

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
In recent decades, significant progress has been made in understanding the mechanisms underlying human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and its treatment. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has notable improved the life expectancy and quality of life for

BCG vaccination potentiates oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal myeloid‐derived suppressor cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
BCG vaccination enhances oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal MDSCs, impairing their immunosuppressive function. It upregulates electron transport chain genes and mitochondrial activity, increasing ATP and oxygen consumption. Pharmacological OXPHOS inhibition partially restores suppressive capacity, confirming causality.

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Unveiling neuroimmunology profile of immunological non-responders in HIV: a multimodal MRI approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundPeople living with HIV (PLWH), especially immunological non-responders (INRs), may experience adverse neurologic events. However, the extent of neurological impairment in INRs remains uncertain. This study evaluates brain structure and function, immune dysregulation, and peripheral immunomarkers in INRs and immunological responders (IRs ...
