The objective of this study was to evaluate the predictions of the small ruminant nutrition system (SRNS) for the digestibility of dietary nutrients and the energy requirements of goats in early lactation. Forty‐eight Alpine goats were assigned to a completely randomized design. During 8 weeks of lactation, six goats were slaughtered per week.

Feeding South African Mutton Merino lambs low‐NDF lucerne hay diets improved nutrient digestibility, energy utilisation, growth efficiency, and carcass quality. Despite lower intake at the lowest NDF level, fibre digestibility and feed conversion improved, indicating that highly digestible, low‐NDF finishing diets enhance lamb growth and carcass traits.

Lycium barbarum byproducts (seeds and residue) in sheep diets increased acetic and propionic acid, digestive enzyme activity, and beneficial bacteria (Prevotella). Immune status (TP, ALB, GLB) and antioxidant capacity (SOD, GSH‐PX) improved, while waste metabolites (UA, BUN) and oxidative stress (MDA) decreased.
