Engineering a Replication-Competent, Propagation-Defective Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus as a Vaccine Candidate

open access: yesmBio, 2013
Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is an emerging coronavirus infecting humans that is associated with acute pneumonia, occasional renal failure, and a high mortality rate and is considered a threat to public health. The construction

An Alanine-to-Valine Substitution in the Residue 175 of Zika Virus NS2A Protein Affects Viral RNA Synthesis and Attenuates the Virus In Vivo

open access: yesViruses, 2018
The recent outbreaks of Zika virus (ZIKV), its association with Guillain–Barré syndrome and fetal abnormalities, and the lack of approved vaccines and antivirals, highlight the importance of developing countermeasures to combat ZIKV disease.

Precisely Monomeric Linear RNAs of Viroids Belonging to Pospiviroid and Hostuviroid Genera Are Infectious Regardless of Transcription Initiation Site and 5′-Terminal Structure

open access: yesCells, 2021
Infectious dimeric RNA transcripts are a powerful tool for reverse genetic analyses in viroid studies. However, the construction of dimeric cDNA clones is laborious and time consuming, especially in mutational analyses by in vitro mutagenesis.

Complete genome sequence and construction of an infectious full-length cDNA clone of a cucumber vein yellowing virus (CVYV) isolate from Portugal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Cucumber vein yellowing virus (CVYV) is a member of the genus Ipomovirus in the family Potyviridae. In the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database, three complete genome sequences of CVYV isolates from Spain (NC_006941), Israel ...

Development and Characterization of a Genetically Stable Infectious Clone for a Genotype I Isolate of Dengue Virus Serotype 1

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Dengue virus (DENV) is primarily transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, and symptoms caused may range from mild dengue fever to severe dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome.

Reverse Genetics System for Rabbit vesivirus

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Most caliciviruses are refractory to replication in cell culture and only a few members of the family propagate in vitro. Rabbit vesivirus (RaV) is unique due to its ability to grow to high titers in several animal and human cell lines.

Infectious genomic RNA of Rhopalosiphum padi virus transcribed in vitro from a full-length cDNA clone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Availability of a cloned genome from which infectious RNA can be transcribed is essential for investigating RNA virus molecular mechanisms. To date, no such clones have been reported for the Dicistroviridae, an emerging family of invertebrate viruses ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.
