Intestinal Permeability Regulation by Tight Junction: Implication on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases
Epithelial tight junctions (TJs) are the key structures regulating paracellular trafficking of macromolecules. The TJ is multi-protein complex that forms a selective permeable seal between adjacent epithelial cells and demarcates the boundary between ...

In the blood–testis barrier, occludin is crucial for tight junctions. This study demonstrates that occludin‐targeting short peptides disrupt junction integrity, inducing immune cell infiltration, tumor necrosis factor‐α/interleukin‐6 secretion and mitochondrial dysfunction, ultimately triggering apoptosis.

Automatic Detection of Bowel Disease with Residual Networks [PDF]
Crohn's disease, one of two inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), affects 200,000 people in the UK alone, or roughly one in every 500. We explore the feasibility of deep learning algorithms for identification of terminal ileal Crohn's disease in Magnetic Resonance Enterography images on a small dataset.

Correspondence of MRI and nTMS With EDSS in Multiple Sclerosis: Longitudinal Follow‐Up Study
ABSTRACT Objectives Considering the characteristics of multiple sclerosis (MS) disease and its impact on motor disability, this study aims to assess the functional integrity of the corticospinal tract by examining motor evoked potentials (MEPs), Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) scores, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) lesion counts, and ...

IgG-seq identifies immune-reactive enteric bacteria in Crohn’s disease with spondyloarthritis
Joint inflammation is the most common extraintestinal manifestation of Crohn’s disease (CD). Although alterations in the enteric microbiota are described in CD with spondyloarthritis (CD-SpA), it is not known whether distinct taxa serve as markers for ...

MIRACLE: Multi-task Learning based Interpretable Regulation of Autoimmune Diseases through Common Latent Epigenetics [PDF]
DNA methylation is a crucial regulator of gene transcription and has been linked to various diseases, including autoimmune diseases and cancers. However, diagnostics based on DNA methylation face challenges due to large feature sets and small sample sizes, resulting in overfitting and suboptimal performance. To address these issues, we propose MIRACLE,

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Parkinson’s Disease
The etiology of Parkinson’s disease (PD) is multifactorial, with genetics, aging, and environmental agents all a part of the PD pathogenesis. Widespread aggregation of the α-synuclein protein in the form of Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites, and degeneration

A fixed combination of probiotics and herbal extracts attenuates intestinal barrier dysfunction from inflammatory stress in an in vitro model using Caco-2 cells. [PDF]
Background: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), are considered a growing global disease, with about ten million people being affected worldwide. Maintenance of intestinal barrier integrity is crucial for preventing IBD onset and exacerbations. Some recent
