Feedback Enhances Preschoolers’ Performance in an Inhibitory Control Task

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2019
Accomplishing inhibition tasks requires not only inhibitory skills but also goal maintenance. The present study aimed to disentangle goal maintenance from inhibition. Therefore, we experimentally manipulated goal-maintenance demands by means of feedback.

Different roles for inhibition in the rhythm-generating respiratory network [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Unraveling the interplay of excitation and inhibition within rhythm-generating networks remains a fundamental issue in neuroscience. We use a biophysical model to investigate the different roles of local and long-range inhibition in the respiratory network, a key component of which is the pre-B\"otzinger complex inspiratory microcircuit.

Substrate inhibition imposes fitness penalty at high protein stability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Proteins are only moderately stable. It has long been debated whether this narrow range of stabilities is solely a result of neutral drift towards lower stability or purifying selection against excess stability is also at work - for which no experimental evidence was found so far.

Spot‐14 and its paralog Spot‐14R regulate expression of metabolic and thermogenic pathway genes in murine brown and beige adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spot‐14 and Spot‐14R play distinct roles in regulating metabolism in brown and beige adipocytes. While both influence lipid and glucose pathways, Spot‐14 uniquely controls thermogenic gene expression. This dual regulation balances energy storage and heat production, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for obesity and metabolic disorders. Spot 14

Inhibition of SARS-CoV 3CL protease by flavonoids

open access: yesJournal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry, 2019
There were severe panics caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle-East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus. Therefore, researches targeting these viruses have been required.

A cellular system to study responses to a collision between the transcription complex and a protein‐bound nick in the DNA template

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.

On inhibited eventualities

open access: yesNatural Language & Linguistic Theory, 2019
The existence of negative descriptions denoting events is controversial in the literature, since it implies enriching the semantic ontology with negative events. The goal of this article is to argue that the readings that have been called ‘negative events’—in contrast to sentential negation reading—should be analysed as inhibited eventualities. We will

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Baijiu Vinasse Extract Scavenges Glyoxal and Inhibits the Formation of Nε-Carboxymethyllysine in Dairy Food

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
The inhibitory effects of baijiu vinasse extract and its phenolic acid compounds on the Nε-carboxymethyllysine (CML) formation from dairy food were investigated.

Cytoplasmic delivery of antibodies through grafting a functional single complementarity‐determining region loop

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We achieved cytoplasmic delivery of non‐cell‐penetrating IgGs by grafting a single functional complementarity‐determining region 1 (CDR1) from the light chain variable region (VL) of the cell‐internalizable 3D8 antibody. The engineered IgG acquired cell‐penetrating ability while maintaining antigen affinity, highlighting CDR1 grafting as a promising ...
