The Effect of New Inhibitors on Malolactic Fermentation of Wines

open access: yesFermentation
This study deals with the influence of various oenological preparations on malolactic fermentation. The influence of chitosan, fumaric acid, a tannin-based (Estaan) oenological preparation and medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) was investigated, along with

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Eye Behaviour in a Targeting Task in Children with ADHD: Linkage to a Level of Attention

open access: yesBioengineering
Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often exhibit different oculomotor behavior compared to their typically developing peers. Research shows that eye movement patterns can provide important information about attention mechanisms.

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

The Vitis vinifera receptor VvLYK6 negatively regulates chitin-triggered immune responses and promotes fungal infections

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionBotrytis cinerea is recognized as one of the most damaging fungal pathogens affecting grapevine (Vitis vinifera), directly impacting both grape yield and wine quality. Identifying new genes involved in the interaction between V.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...

Characterization of the ligand binding pocket of the virulence regulator Rns, a member of the AraC/XylS family of transcription factors

open access: yesmSphere
Diarrheal disease caused by Gram-negative enteric pathogens, such as enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC), Vibrio cholerae, Shigella spp., and Salmonella spp., is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality of children, especially in low resource ...
