Anti-innexin 2 aptamers specifically inhibit the heterologous interaction of the innexin 2 and innexin 3 carboxyl-terminiin vitro

bchm, 2007
AbstractWe recently demonstrated that heteromerization of innexins 2 and 3 fromDrosophila melanogaster(Dm) is crucial for epithelial organization and polarity of the embryonic epidermis. Both innexins are thought to interact via their C-terminal cytoplasmic domains during the assembly of heteromeric gap junction channels.

Gap junction gene and protein families: Connexins, innexins, and pannexins

open access: yesBiochimica Et Biophysica Acta - Biomembranes, 2018
Gap junction channels facilitate the intercellular exchange of ions and small molecules. While this process is critical to all multicellular organisms, the proteins that form gap junction channels are not conserved. Vertebrate gap junctions are formed by connexins, while invertebrate gap junctions are formed by innexins.

Innexin-3 forms connexin-like intercellular channels

Journal of Cell Science, 1999
ABSTRACT Innexins comprise a large family of genes that are believed to encode invertebrate gap junction channel-forming proteins. However, only two Drosophila innexins have been directly tested for the ability to form intercellular channels and only one of those was active.

Unexpected link between insect innexins and apoptosis of HeLa cells

Archives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, 2018
AbstractLittle is known about how mammalian cells respond to the expression of innexins (Inxs), which are known to mediate cell‐to‐cell communication that causes apoptosis in the cells of the insect Spodoptera litura. The mammalian expression system, p3xFLAG tag protein, containing the CMV promoter, allowed us to construct two C‐terminally elongated ...

Molecular Characterization, Localization, and Distribution of Innexins in the Silkworm, Bombyx mori

Molecular Biotechnology, 2009
Gap junctions that allow for a direct exchange of second messenger and ions are the most conserved cellular structures in multicellular organisms. We have isolated and characterized a Bombyx mori gene innexin3 that encodes a new member of the innexin family required for the early embryonic development.

Innexin genes and gap junction proteins in the locust frontal ganglion

Insect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2009
Gap junctions (GJs) belong to one of the most conserved cellular structures in multicellular organisms. They probably serve similar functions in all Metazoa, providing one of the most common forms of intercellular communication. GJs are widely distributed in embryonic cells and tissues and have been attributed an important role in development ...
