Inositol - why should it be in the spotlight for women in a reproductive age?

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2023
Introduction and purpose: Inositol exists in the form of nine isomers, two of which are dominant - myo-inositol (MI) and D-chiro-inositol (DCI). It is a naturally occuring sugar involved in many biological pathways. Due to its  insulin-sensitizing, anti-

The Potential Use of Ebselen in Treatment-Resistant Depression

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2022
Ebselen is an organoselenium compound developed as an antioxidant and subsequently shown to be a glutathione peroxidase (GPx) mimetic. Ebselen shows some efficacy in post-stroke neuroprotection and is currently in trial for the treatment and prevention ...

Distribution and fatty acid composition of phosphoglycerides in normal human brain

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1968
A thin-layer chromatographic procedure for the isolation of tissue phospholipids and their subsequent analysis is described. The method has been applied to the determination of the fatty acids of phosphoglycerides in human brain from the early fetal ...

Inositols in PCOS [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
(1) Background: Myoinositol (MI) and D-chiro-inositol (DCI) are involved in a number of biochemical pathways within oocytes having a role in oocyte maturation, fertilization, implantation, and post-implantation development. Both inositols have a role in insulin signaling and hormonal synthesis in the ovaries.

When one size does not fit all: Reconsidering PCOS etiology, diagnosis, clinical subgroups, and subgroup-specific treatments

open access: yesEndocrine and Metabolic Science
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine disorder that affects a large proportion of women. Due to its heterogeneity, the best diagnostic strategy has been a matter of contention.

Systematic analysis of the biological roles and pharmacological properties of D-chiro-inositol [PDF]

open access: yesГинекология, 2020
D-chiroinositol (DCI) is one of the 9 inositol isomers that forms inositol phosphoglycans, which are mediators of the action of insulin. The metabolism of DCI and myo-inositol (MI) is impaired against the background of insulin resistance, including the ...

Inositol Pyrophosphate Pyrotechnics [PDF]

open access: yesCell Metabolism, 2007
Physiologic roles of highly phosphorylated inositol phosphates, including those containing pyrophosphate groups, have been the focus of much recent interest. In the April 6, 2007 issue of Science, two papers (Lee et al., 2007; Mulugu et al., 2007) demonstrate the occurrence of a novel inositol pyrophosphate molecule in yeast and elucidate its role in ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
