Prevention of tumour cell apoptosis associated with sustained protein kinase B phosphorylation is more sensitive to regulation by insulin signalling than stimulation of proliferation and extracellular signal-regulated kinase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Insulin controls blood glucose while insulin-like growth factor (IGF) 1 is an important growth factor. Interestingly, both hormones have overlapping bioactivities and can activate the same intracellular signal transduction cascades.

Effective therapeutic targeting of CTNNB1‐mutant hepatoblastoma with WNTinib

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
WNTinib, a Wnt/CTNNB1 inhibitor, was tested in hepatoblastoma (HB) experimental models. It delayed tumor growth and improved survival in CTNNB1‐mutant in vivo models. In organoids, WNTinib outperformed cisplatin and showed enhanced efficacy in combination therapy, supporting its potential as a targeted treatment for CTNNB1‐mutated HB.

Insulin-like growth factor-1 deficiency and metabolic syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2016
Consistent evidence associates IGF-1 deficiency and metabolic syndrome. In this review, we will focus on the metabolic effects of IGF-1, the concept of metabolic syndrome and its clinical manifestations (impaired lipid profile, insulin resistance, increased glucose levels, obesity, and cardiovascular disease), discussing whether IGF-1 replacement ...

Somatotropic Axis and Obesity: Is There Any Role for the Mediterranean Diet? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Obesity is associated with reduced spontaneous and stimulated growth hormone (GH) secretion and basal insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-1) levels-which in turn is associated with increased prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Evaluation of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 and Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Protein-3 Expression Levels in Patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Hematology, 2016
Objective: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a disease of nonproliferating and mature-appearing B lymphocytes. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is a small peptide hormone and has mitogenic and antiapoptotic effects, and insulin-like growth ...

Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 Deficiency and Cirrhosis Establishment

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine Research, 2017
Cirrhosis represents the final stage of chronic liver damage, which can be due to different factors such as alcohol, metabolic syndrome with liver steatosis, autoimmune diseases, drugs, toxins, and viral infection, among others. Nowadays, cirrhosis is an important health problem and it is an increasing cause of morbidity and mortality, being the 14th ...

Engineering insulin‐like growth factor‐1 for local delivery [PDF]

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2008
Insulin‐like growth factor‐1 (IGF‐1) is a small protein that promotes cell survival and growth, often acting over long distances. Although for decades IGF‐1 has been considered to have therapeutic poten tial, systemic side effects of IGF‐1 are significant, and local delivery of IGF‐1 for tissue repair has been a long‐standing ...

Effects of negative energy balance on liver gene and protein expression during the early postpartum period and its impacts on dairy cow fertility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
End of project reportNegative energy balance (NEB) is a severe metabolic affecting high yielding dairy cows early post partum with both concurrent and latent negative effects on cow fertility as well as on milk production and cow health.

Pasireotide Long-Acting Release Treatment for Diabetic Cats with Underlying Hypersomatotropism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: Long‐term medical management of hypersomatotropism (HS) in cats has proved unrewarding. Pasireotide, a novel somatostatin analogue, decreases serum insulin‐like growth factor 1 (IGF‐1) and improves insulin sensitivity in cats with HS when ...
