The role of polypeptide growth factors in promoting muscle differentiation is uncharacterized. We have used a fusing skeletal muscle cell line, C2, to examine the endogenous expression of one peptide, insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II), and its ...

Caloric restriction that extends lifespan induces the expression of PGC‐1α and MIPEP in white adipose tissue. In this study, co‐overexpression of Pgc‐1α and Mipep upregulated the gene expression of PHOSPHO1. These findings provide new insights into mitochondria‐related mechanisms underlying the effects of caloric restriction in adipocytes.

Specific effects of estrogen on growth factor and major histocompatibility complex class II antigen expression in rat aortic allograft [PDF]
Objective: Transplant arteriosclerosis is the major determinant for long-term survival of cardiac transplants. Estradiol treatment inhibits transplant arteriosclerosis. The objective of this study is to determine, in the absence of immunosuppression, the

We hypothesize that loss of imprinting (LOI) of the insulin-like growth factor II (IGF2) gene is associated with a predisposition to sporadic colorectal cancer. We confirmed a previously known strong correlation between LOI and microsatellite instability

Liver‐specific lncRNAs associated with liver cancers
Long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are regulatory molecules with various functions. They are more tissue‐specific than proteins and can be used as potential biomarkers, particularly in cancer diagnostics and prognosis. In this review, we have systematically compiled all lncRNAs with exclusive expression in the human liver, verified their liver specificity ...

Metabolic Consequences of Rheumatoid Arthritis
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may have metabolic disruption, which can contribute to adverse long‐term outcomes, for multiple reasons. Patients with RA appear to have a higher risk of sarcopenia, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension. Systemic inflammation in RA can cause a “lipid paradox,” with reduced low‐

Double jeopardy: hypoglycaemia and advanced hepatocellular carcinoma [PDF]
Nonislet cell tumour-induced hypoglycaemia is an uncommon, but serious complication of malignancy. The aetiopathogenesis is largely as a result of tumoral overproduction of incompletely processed insulin-like growth factor-II.

Cryptic receptors for insulin-like growth factor II in the plasma membrane of rat adipocytes — a possible link to cellular insulin resistance [PDF]
To further elucidate the mechanisms for short-term regulation of the receptor for insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II), we investigated effects of insulin, cAMP and phosphatase inhibitors on cell surface 125I-IGF-II binding in rat adipocytes ...
