Glutamate is an essential mediator in glutamine‐amplified insulin secretion

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, 2021
Aims/Introduction Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the circulation. In this study, we investigated cell signaling in the amplification of insulin secretion by glutamine.

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

Excessive iron accumulation mediated oxidative stress and β-cell dysfunction via perturbations of insulin secretion in MIN6 cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the predominant form of diabetes, with prevalence increasing steadily both in developed and developing countries. Defects in both insulin action and insulin secretion are known to contribute to the development of T2DM ...

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Insulin signaling pathways in lepidopteran steroidogenesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2014
Molting and metamorphosis are stimulated by the secretion of ecdysteroid hormones from the prothoracic glands. Insulin-like hormones have been found to enhance prothoracic gland activity, providing a mechanism to link molting to nutritional state.

Effects of GCK, GCKR, G6PC2 and MTNR1B variants on glucose metabolism and insulin secretion. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BACKGROUND:Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from GCK, GCKR, G6PC2 and MTNR1B were found to modulate the fasting glucose levels. The current study aimed to replicate this association in the Chinese population and further analyze their effects on ...

Oestrogens and insulin secretion [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetologia, 2005
There is a persistent perception that oestrogens have an adverse effect on carbohydrate metabolism. It might therefore be expected that their use would result in a corresponding increase in the incidence of diabetes. Recent evidence from clinical trials suggesting that women on postmenopausal oestrogen hormone replacement therapy (HRT) have a reduced ...

Functional and Structural Evidence of Neurofluid Circuit Aberrations in Huntington Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Disrupted neurofluid regulation may contribute to neurodegeneration in Huntington disease (HD). Because neurofluid pathways influence waste clearance, inflammation, and the distribution of central nervous system (CNS)–delivered therapeutics, understanding their dysfunction is increasingly important as targeted treatments emerge.

Evaluation of glucose tolerance test and surrogate indexes of insulin sensitivity to detect insulin resistance syndrome in transition dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Healthy multiparous Holstein-Fresian cows (n=101, parity ≥ 2) from 3 large-scale dairy herds in Italy were subjected to an intravenous glucose tolerance test (GTT) 14-1 d before (Week -1) and 3-9 d after calving (Week +1).

Myricetin Amplifies Glucose–Stimulated Insulin Secretion via the cAMP-PKA-Epac-2 Signaling Cascade

open access: yesBiomedicines
Aim: Myricetin, a natural bioflavonoid, is reported as an anti-diabetic agent since it possesses the ability to inhibit α-glucosidase activity, stimulate insulin action and secretion, manage ROS, and prevent diabetes complications.
