Nutritional modulation of insulin resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Insulin resistance has been proposed as the strongest single predictor for the development of Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM). Chronic oversupply of energy from food, together with inadequate physical activity, have been recognized as the most relevant factors ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Increased insulin resistance in intensive care: longitudinal retrospective analysis of glycaemic control patients in a New Zealand ICU

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2021
Background: Critical care populations experience demographic shifts in response to trends in population and healthcare, with increasing severity and/or complexity of illness a common observation worldwide. Inflammation in critical illness impacts glucose–

Insulin Sensitivity and Albuminuria: The RISC Study [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes Care, 2014
OBJECTIVE Accumulating evidence suggests an association between insulin sensitivity and albuminuria, which, even in the normal range, is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. We evaluated whether insulin sensitivity is associated with albuminuria in healthy subjects.

Impaired Insulin sensitivity and Insulin secretion in Haemodialysis patients with and without Secondary Hyperparathyroidism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The aim of our study was to investigate insulin sensitivity and beta cell function in hemodialysis (HD) patients without diabetes. We hypothesized that parathyroid gland function was a determinant of insulin sensitivity and/or beta cell function.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Diabetes Mellitus, Extreme Insulin Resistance, and Hypothalamic-Pituitary Langerhans Cells Histiocytosis

open access: yesCase Reports in Endocrinology, 2019
Background. Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare inflammatory neoplasm characterized by an infiltration of organs by Langerin + (CD207+) and CD1a+ histiocytes.

TCF7L2 correlation in both insulin secretion and postprandial insulin sensitivity

open access: yesDiabetology & Metabolic Syndrome, 2018
Background The TCF7L2 rs7903146 variant is strongly associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, the mechanisms involved in this association remain unknown and may include extrapancreatic effects.

Shape of the glucose response curve during an oral glucose tolerance test is associated with insulin clearance and muscle insulin sensitivity in healthy non‐obese men

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, 2020
Individuals with a monophasic glucose response curve (GRC) during a 75‐g oral glucose tolerance test have a higher risk for type 2 diabetes than those with a biphasic GRC.

Evaluation of glucose tolerance test and surrogate indexes of insulin sensitivity to detect insulin resistance syndrome in transition dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Healthy multiparous Holstein-Fresian cows (n=101, parity ≥ 2) from 3 large-scale dairy herds in Italy were subjected to an intravenous glucose tolerance test (GTT) 14-1 d before (Week -1) and 3-9 d after calving (Week +1).
