The ability of organisms to sense their nutritional environment and adjust their behavior accordingly is critical for survival. Insulin-like peptides (ilps) play major roles in controlling behavior and metabolism; however, the tissues and cells that ...

Reduction of DILP2 in Drosophila triages a metabolic phenotype from lifespan revealing redundancy and compensation among DILPs [PDF]
The insulin/IGF-like signalling (IIS) pathway has diverse functions in all multicellular organisms, including determination of lifespan. The seven insulin-like peptides (DILPs) in Drosophila are expressed in a stage- and tissue-specific manner.

Insulin signalling and GLUT4 trafficking in insulin resistance
Insulin-stimulated glucose uptake into muscle and adipose tissue is vital for maintaining whole-body glucose homeostasis. Insulin promotes glucose uptake into these tissues by triggering a protein phosphorylation signalling cascade, which converges on multiple trafficking processes to deliver the glucose transporter GLUT4 to the cell surface.

Atorvastatin improves survival in septic rats: effect on tissue inflammatory pathway and on insulin signaling. [PDF]
The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the survival-improving effect of atorvastatin in sepsis is accompanied by a reduction in tissue activation of inflammatory pathways and, in parallel, an improvement in tissue insulin signaling in ...

Epac1 Restores Normal Insulin Signaling through a Reduction in Inflammatory Cytokines
We have previously reported that Epac1 reduced inflammatory cytokines, which is protective to the diabetic retina. We have also published that impaired insulin signaling occurs in the diabetic retina.

NUCKS Is a Positive Transcriptional Regulator of Insulin Signaling
Although much is known about the molecular players in insulin signaling, there is scant information about transcriptional regulation of its key components.

Regulation of lifespan, metabolism, and stress responses by the Drosophila SH2B protein, Lnk [PDF]
Drosophila Lnk is the single ancestral orthologue of a highly conserved family of structurally-related intracellular adaptor proteins, the SH2B proteins.

Endothelial Notch signaling controls insulin transport in muscle
The role of the endothelium is not just limited to acting as an inert barrier for facilitating blood transport. Endothelial cells (ECs), through expression of a repertoire of angiocrine molecules, regulate metabolic demands in an organ‐specific manner ...
