Prokaryotic Collagen-Like Proteins as Novel Biomaterials

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
Collagens are the major structural component in animal extracellular matrices and are critical signaling molecules in various cell-matrix interactions. Its unique triple helical structure is enabled by tripeptide Gly-X-Y repeats.

Tensin links energy metabolism to extracellular matrix assembly. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The regulation of integrin function is key to fundamental cellular processes, including cell migration and extracellular matrix (ECM) assembly. In this issue, Georgiadou et al. (2017. J. Cell Biol.

Integrins, cancer and snake toxins (mini-review)

open access: yesJournal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases, 2005
Integrins encompass a family of transmembrane heterodimeric proteins of adhesion that maintain cells attached to other cells and to the extracellular matrix (ECM).

Interleukin-8 promotes integrin β3 upregulation and cell invasion through PI3K/Akt pathway in hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesJournal of experimental & clinical cancer research : CR, 2019
Interleukin-8 (IL-8) plays a vital role in the invasion and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and is closely associated with poor prognosis of HCC patients. Integrin αvβ3, a member of the integrin family, has been reported to be overexpressed

The Talin Head Domain Reinforces Integrin-Mediated Adhesion by Promoting Adhesion Complex Stability and Clustering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Talin serves an essential function during integrin-mediated adhesion in linking integrins to actin via the intracellular adhesion complex. In addition, the N-terminal head domain of talin regulates the affinity of integrins for their ECM-ligands, a ...

Integrin activation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cell Science, 2004
The ability of cells to regulate dynamically their adhesion to one another and to the extracellular matrix (ECM) that surrounds them is essential in multicellular organisms. The integrin family of transmembrane adhesion receptors mediates both cell-cell and cell-ECM adhesion.

Integrins and p53 pathways in glioblastoma resistance to temozolomide

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2012
Glioblastoma is the most common malignant primary brain tumor. Surgical resection, postoperative radiotherapy plus concomitant and adjuvant chemotherapy with temozolomide is the standard of care for newly diagnosed glioblastoma.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Kindlin Regulates Mechanosensitive Activation and Adhesion Assembly of Integrin beta6

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Inside‐out and outside‐in activations of integrin both play important roles in adhesion formation and cell motility. While such mechanisms of RGD‐binding integrin, including integrin β1 and β3, are well documented, mechanosensitive regulations of ...

Periostin-integrin signaling in hepatocellular carcinoma: from biological function to clinical application

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide and the most common primary tumor. Periostin (POSTN) is located in the extracellular matrix (ECM) and triggers tumor growth signals by binding to integrin receptors.
