Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Cell–cell communications shape tumor microenvironment and predict clinical outcomes in clear cell renal carcinoma

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2023
Background Cell–cell communications of various cell populations within tumor microenvironment play an essential role in primary tumor growth, metastasis evolution, and immune escape.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Novel insights into exosomal circular RNAs: Redefining intercellular communication in cancer biology

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, 2021
Exosomes, a special type of membrane‐bound extracellular vesicle regarded as an ideal carrier for intercellular messages, play an essential role in intercellular communication both locally and systematically.

Intercellular Nanotubes Mediate Bacterial Communication [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 2011
Bacteria are known to communicate primarily via secreted extracellular factors. Here we identify a previously uncharacterized type of bacterial communication mediated by nanotubes that bridge neighboring cells. Using Bacillus subtilis as a model organism, we visualized transfer of cytoplasmic fluorescent molecules between adjacent cells.

Intercellular bridges for cell-cell communication

open access: yes, 2010
In multicellular organism, intercellular communication is essential for maintenance of life activity. The intercellular communication includes direct and indirect crosstalk such as gap junction and ligand-receptor interaction, pectively.

Innate Immune Reprogramming Mediated by Endogenous Retroelement Dysregulation Drives Multiple Sclerosis Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Epigenetic reprogramming in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and downstream myeloid cells, mediated by H3.3 downregulation and endogenous retroelement (ERE) overexpression, contributes to the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS). ABSTRACT Background Skewed myelopoiesis in the bone marrow has been identified as a key driver of multiple ...

Examination of gap junctional, intercellular communication by in situ electroporation on two co-planar indium-tin oxide electrodes

open access: yes, 2007
Gap junctions are plasma membrane channels between neighboring cells. We previously described a powerful technique where gap junctional, intercellular communication (GJIC) of adherent cells can be examined by in situ electroporation on a slide, part of ...

Plasma EV Proteomics Identifies ECM Remodeling and Inflammatory Proteins LUM and C7 as Candidate Biomarkers in FSHD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is one of the most debilitating and common muscular dystrophies. Despite its severity, no approved therapy exists for FSHD patients. However, several therapeutic candidates are currently under development, and some have recently entered clinical trials, marking the need for reliable ...
