The structure and function of interferon-γ receptors

International Journal of Immunopharmacology, 1992
Interferon-gamma exerts its pleiotropic immunomodulatory effects by interacting with a single type of IFN gamma receptor expressed on nearly all cells. Human and murine IFN gamma receptors have been purified, their cDNAs cloned and expressed, and their primary structure elucidated.

First trimester human trophoblast expresses both interferon-γ and interferon-γ-receptor

Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 1994
Interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) is a lymphokine, produced by activated T lymphocytes, which plays a key regulatory role in the host immunological responses. In addition, IFN-gamma is expressed by human and porcine trophoblast. As IFN-gamma exerts its biological functions through specific cell surface receptors and a great number of IFN-gamma receptors ...

Distribution of Interferon-Gamma Receptors in Normal and Psoriatic Skin

Pathology - Research and Practice, 1995
Recent data suggest that imbalances in production and secretion of cytokines, in particular interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), may be crucial in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. In order to exert its role on target cells, IFN-gamma has to interact with a specific cell membrane receptor termed the IFN-gamma-receptor (IFN-gamma R).

Upregulation of Type I Interferon Receptor by IFN-gamma

Journal of Interferon & Cytokine Research, 1999
Type I interferon (IFN) receptor has a multichain structure composed of at least two distinct subunits, IFNAR-1 and IFNAR-2. In the present study, we demonstrated that IFN-gamma induced the expression of mRNA for IFNAR-1 and IFNAR-2 in a human hepatoma cell line, HepG2 cells. The induction was dose and time dependent.

Expression of alpha and gamma interferon receptors in the sperm cell

Molecular Reproduction and Development, 2000
The present study was conducted to examine whether or not the sperm cell has the expression of receptors for interferon (IFN) -alpha and -gamma. This was investigated using specific antibodies. Antibody to IFN-alpha receptor reacted with the acrosomal and tail regions of the murine sperm cell in the indirect immunofluorescence technique (IFT) and ...

Gamma Interferon Receptor Defect Presenting as Recurrent Tuberculosis

The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2013
Failure of response to therapy in childhood tuberculosis may be due to resistance, paradoxical response or immunodeficiency. Interferon-γ (IFNγ) plays a major role during host defense against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). An 8-y-old boy presented with fever, hepatosplenomegaly and parotid abscess.

Inhibition of interferon-gamma by an interferon-gamma receptor immunoadhesin.

Immunology, 1993
Interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) is an important cytokine which regulates inflammatory and immune response mechanisms. IFN-gamma enhances the presentation and recognition of antigens by inducing the expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins, by activating effector T cells and mononuclear phagocytes, and by modulating immunoglobulin ...

Polymorphisms in the genes encoding interferon‐γ and interferon‐γ receptors in multiple sclerosis

European Journal of Immunogenetics, 2004
SummaryGenome screens suggest that several genes, each contributing to a small extent, are involved in multiple sclerosis (MS) susceptibility. Simultaneous analysis of related genes may improve the power to detect such small effects. Interferon‐γ (IFN‐γ), mediating its effects through the IFN‐γ receptor, is a pleiotropic, pro‐inflammatory cytokine for ...

Interferon enhances the expression of Fc gamma receptors.

The Journal of Immunology, 1980
Abstract Murine T2D4 cells derived from a T cell hybrid line were incubated with partially purified or electrophoretically pure mouse interferon and tested for the expression of Fc gamma R as assessed by a) counting the number of cells forming rosettes with IgG-sensitized sheep erythrocytes, and b) incubating the cells with heat ...

Monoclonal Antibodies to the Human Interferon-γ Receptor: Blocking of the Biological Activities of Interferon-γ and Purification of the Receptor

Journal of Interferon Research, 1989
Monoclonal antibodies against the human interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) receptor were developed by injecting mice with a preparation of receptor that was purified from solubilized placental membranes by ligand affinity chromatography. Three antibodies were identified by their ability to block the binding of 125I-labeled IFN-gamma to its receptor on HeLa ...
