Interleukin (IL)-35 is raising our expectations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Purpose: To elucidate and discuss the role of IL-35 in immunity to parasitic and bacterial infections as well as in autoimmunity in terms of its anti-infammatory properties, we highlight significant findings on this novel member of the IL-12 family ...

CD27 and IL-35 as diagnostic biomarkers in alopecia areata: First evidence of association with pathogenic scalp bacterial infections

open access: yesBabcock University Medical Journal
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic and prognostic potential of CD27 and interleukin-35 (IL-35) in patients with Alopecia Areata (AA), with and without pathogenic bacterial infections.

Interleukin-35 -producing B cells rescues inflammatory bowel disease in a mouse model via STAT3 phosphorylation and intestinal microbiota modification

open access: yesCell Death Discovery, 2023
Interleukin-35 (IL-35)-producing B cells (IL-35+B cells) play an important role in diseases, and the expansion of IL-35+ immune cells have been observed in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, how IL-35+B cells function and the manner in which they

The Role of Interleukin-1 cytokine family (IL-1β, IL-37) and interleukin-12 cytokine family (IL-12, IL-35) in eumycetoma infection pathogenesis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2019
Mycetoma is a neglected tropical disease, endemic in many tropical and subtropical regions, characterised by massive deformity and disability and can be fatal if untreated early and appropriately.

Early production of IL-22 but not IL-17 by peripheral blood mononuclear cells exposed to live Borrelia burgdorferi: the role of monocytes and interleukin-1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
If insufficiently treated, Lyme borreliosis can evolve into an inflammatory disorder affecting skin, joints, and the CNS. Early innate immunity may determine host responses targeting infection. Thus, we sought to characterize the immediate cytokine storm

Rapid Communication: Plasma Interleukin-35 in Children with Autism

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2019
In autism spectrum disorders (ASD) many individuals have co-morbid immune dysregulation that can lead to inflammation in the brain and periphery. The novel cytokine interleukin (IL)-35 has described anti-inflammatory properties; however, the plasma ...

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Tumour-derived Interleukin 35 promotes pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cell extravasation and metastasis by inducing ICAM1 expression

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Interleukin-35 (IL-35) is an immune suppressive cytokine produced by T-cells. Here, the authors show that IL-35 is overexpressed by human pancreatic cancer cells and show, in a mouse model, that IL-35 promotes metastasis in an autocrine/paracrine manner ...

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses
