Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Disparities and Trends in Polycythemia Vera–Related Mortality in U.S. Adults Aged ≥45 Years from 1999 to 2023

open access: yesASIDE Internal Medicine
Background: Polycythemia vera (PV) is a rare myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by excessive red blood cell production, leading to increased risk of thrombosis and other complications.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

HIV in Egypt: from Silent Emergence to Concentrated Epidemic - A Narrative Review of Past, Present and Future

open access: yesASIDE Internal Medicine
Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) continues to represent one of the most significant public health challenges, with Egypt facing a rapidly and silently growing epidemic masked by its low-prevalence classification.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Long-Term Trends in Sepsis Mortality Among Older U.S. Adults with Chronic Kidney Disease, 1999–2023

open access: yesASIDE Internal Medicine
Background: Sepsis causes 1 in 3 U.S. hospital deaths, especially deadly among adults ≥65 with CKD, affecting over 30% of over-70s. Long-term trends in this group are understudied.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Periprosthetic Joint Infection in Egypt: A Narrative Review of the Current Landscape and Knowledge Gaps

open access: yesASIDE Internal Medicine
Background: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is one of the most serious complications of total joint arthroplasty (TJA). This review synthesizes the available local evidence of PJI in Egypt to identify the current landscape and knowledge gaps in the

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Bridging the Gap: Addressing Language Barriers to Advance Equity in Internal Medicine

open access: yesASIDE Internal Medicine
Language barriers in healthcare are a persistent challenge that disproportionately affect patients with limited English proficiency (LEP), contributing to disparities in care, poor health outcomes, and patient dissatisfaction.
