Midbrain PAG Astrocytes Modulate Mouse Defensive and Panic‐Like Behaviors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 19, 2 April 2026.
Astrocytes in the midbrain periaqueductal gray (PAG) dynamically encode threat intensity and shape defensive action selection in mice. Real‐time Ca2+ imaging reveals robust astrocytic activation during predator odor and CO2 exposure. Aberrant astrocytic Ca2+ overactivation disrupts goal‐directed escape, biases behavior toward freezing, and induces ...

Catheter Ablation for Frequent Premature Ventricular Contractions or Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia With Vagal Bradycardia: A New Clinical Application of Superior Vena Cava–Aorta Ganglionated Plexus Modification

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 49, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study demonstrates that combined RFCA and right atrial Ao‐SVC GP ablation provides a one‐stop, innovative solution for patients with vagal bradycardia and concomitant tachyarrhythmias, significantly improving symptoms and reducing syncope. ABSTRACT Background Frequent premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) or paroxysmal supraventricular ...

Dopaminergic Innervation of the Nidopallium Caudolaterale in the Japanese Quail

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 4, April 2026.
The nidopallium caudolaterale (NCL) of the Japanese quail was delineated based on quantitative TH+ fiber density, identifying it as the primary dopaminergic target within the pallium. TH+ basket‐like structures predominantly surrounded CaMKIIa+ excitatory neurons, with sparse contacts onto GABAergic interneurons.

Activation of GPR35 in the Anterior Cingulate Cortex Alleviates Neuropathic Pain and Depression‐Related Behavior

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
Sciatic nerve injury led to a significant increase in the expression of GPR35 in the ACC region of mice. This increased interaction with Nr4a1 can activate the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, thereby reducing neuroinflammation and playing a role in alleviating hyperalgesia and depressive behavior in mice. ACC, anterior cingulate cortex.

GABAergic Neuron Activation in the RMTg‐VTA Pathway Modulates Dopaminergic Neuron Excitability and Social Stress Susceptibility in Male Mice

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
In susceptible mice, dopamine neurons in the VTA exhibit increased excitability along with upregulation of GABAA receptors. Administration of the GABAA receptor agonist muscimol reduces this neuronal hyperexcitability and reverses social avoidance behavior.

A Review of Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Disease: Comprehensive Theory and Evidence for Mechanisms of Action

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) effects span central and peripheral organ systems through diverse mechanistic pathways. This comprehensive review provides a unified synthesis of these mechanisms across neurological, cardiovascular, immunological, metabolic, and gastrointestinal domains, filling a critical gap and serving as a foundational resource for ...
