RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

The implications of signaling lipids in cancer metastasis

open access: yesExperimental and Molecular Medicine, 2018
Cancer treatment: Targeting or Modifying lipids with signaling role Lipid molecules with cellular signaling roles are increasingly recognized as playing a role in cancer metastasis, the dangerous spread of cancer cells beyond a primary tumor, and these ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Correspondence: When Human Understanding of Fish Invasion is Blurred [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Leprieur et al.’s observation that fish invasions are blurred by human activity (Leprieur et al. 2008 doi:10.1371/journal.pbio.0060028) correctly reflected the well established understanding that fish invasion is human mediated (1-4).

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Phragmites australis and Argyrogramma albostriata Suppress the Invasion of Solidago canadensis in China Under Future Climate Change

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Global warming has significantly accelerated the invasion process and expanded the distribution range of Solidago canadensis. It forms a dominant monoculture in multiple regions via wind‐dispersed seeds and rhizome clonal propagation, posing a serious ...

Ground State Structure in a Highly Disordered Spin Glass Model

open access: yes, 1995
We propose a new Ising spin glass model on $Z^d$ of Edwards-Anderson type, but with highly disordered coupling magnitudes, in which a greedy algorithm for producing ground states is exact.
