The Role of Platelets in Ischemic Conditioning.

Conditioning medicine
Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Platelets, as the main regulators of hemostasis, are major players in acute myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI). Additionally, platelets are modified by endogenous cardioprotective strategies such as ischemic preconditioning, postconditioning, and ...

[Therapeutic perspectives in ischemic conditions].

Recenti progressi in medicina, 2005
Recently the angiogenic mechanism of platelet-derived growth factor-CC was discovered. This factor is capable of mobilize endothelial progenitor cells in ischemic conditions, and induce differentiation of bone marrow cells into endothelial cells. The possibility of modulating the activity of this factor may provide a new strategy for treating ischemic ...

THE ROLE OF THE SVZ IN ISCHEMIC CONDITION

2012
The occlusion of a cerebral artery or stroke often results in neuronal deficit and/or patient death. A partial recovery often follows non-fatal stroke and this may be due to the activation of the progenitor cells in the Sub- Ventricular Zone (SVZ) naturally occurring after ischemia.
