Isolation of Plasma Membrane and Plasma Membrane Microdomains

2016
The plasma membrane surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell and functions as a barrier to separate the intracellular compartment from the extracellular environment. Protein and lipid components distribute nonuniformly and the components form clusters with various functions in the plasma membrane.

Antigenicity of isolated synaptosomal membranes

Experimental Neurology, 1974
Abstract An antiserum has been prepared against an isolated synaptosomal membrane preparation obtained from chick forebrain. Immunohistochemical localization studies showed that the antiserum reacts with nerve terminal membranes and preterminal axonal membranes in the central nervous system.

Isolation of Yeast Plasma Membranes

2003
The plasma membrane is dynamic, with both its lipid and protein composition changing to facilitate adaptation to the ambient conditions. Biochemical activities to pre-existing proteins will also change. To monitor these variations, the cell membrane must be isolated.

Transport in isolated plasma membranes

American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology, 1978
Plasma membrane vesicles constitute a simpler experimental system for studying transport compared to cells or intact tissue. The principal advantages of the vesicle approach are the elimination of metabolism as a complicating factor and the ability to control the composition of the solutions on both sides of the membrane.

Isolation of walls and membranes

1980
As has been described in Chapter 1, the structure of the outer layers of Grampositive bacteria is reasonably simple as far as can be seen by present techniques. They consist of walls of variable, but always considerable, thickness and of no very clearly defined internal structure.

Isolation and characterization of horny cell membrane

Archives of Dermatological Research, 1982
The cornified cell membrane and thickened marginal band were obtained from human stratum corneum by a new, faster procedure involving extraction, tripsinization, and density gradient centrifugation. Observations revealed a fine membranous structure with a thickened inner surface of approximately 150 A (marginal band).

Rotavirus interaction with isolated membrane vesicles

Journal of Virology, 1994
To gain information about the mechanism of epithelial cell infection by rotavirus, we studied the interaction of bovine rotavirus, RF strain, with isolated membrane vesicles from apical membrane of pig enterocytes. Vesicles were charged with high (quenching) concentrations of either carboxyfluorescein or calcein, and the rate of fluorophore release ...

Isolation and characterization of lymphocyte plasma membranes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1972
We describe a method for the isolation of plasma membranes and other organelles from the lymphocytes of pig mesenteric lymph nodes, as well as from calf mediastinal nodes. The cells were disrupted by nitrogen cavitation leaving the nuclei intact. Nuclei, the large granule fraction and microsomes consisting of vesicles derived from plasma membrane and ...

Isolation of Canine Neutrophil Plasma Membranes

Journal of Leukocyte Biology, 1985
Abstract This paper describes the isolation of plasma membrane vesicles formed by nitrogen cavitation of canine neutrophils. Plasma membranes from disrupted cells were separated from other membranes and organelles by Percoll-density gradient centrifugation.

Plasma Membrane Isolation

1990
The plasma membrane exists as the interface between the cytosol and the environment in all living cells and is probably the most complex and differentiated membrane. The membrane differs between cells of different organs or tissues, and in several animal cell types, the plasma membrane consists of distinct domains of different structural, compositional,
