Clinical and therapeutic aspects of an outbreak of canine trypanosomiasis

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária
Trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma evansi can seriously affect both domestic and wild animals. This article reports on an outbreak of canine trypanosomiasis on a farm in the Pantanal region of Brazil.

The effect of diminazene aceturate and isometamidium chloride on cultured procyclic forms of susceptible and drug-resistant Trypanosoma congolense

open access: yesActa Tropica, 1991
Cultures of insect forms of Trypanosoma congolense stocks and clones with different susceptibilities to trypanocidal drugs in vivo were initiated from bloodstream trypomastigotes harvested from mammalian hosts and maintained axenically in vitro at 27 degrees C. Growth inhibition of procyclic forms of susceptible and drug-resistant T.

Variation in resistance to isometamidium chloride and diminazene aceturate by clones derived from a stock ofTrypanosoma congolense

open access: yesParasitology, 1991
SUMMARYNine clones were derived from a drug-resistantTrypanosoma congolensestock (IL 2856) and characterized in mice for their sensitivity to isometamidium chloride and diminazene aceturate. All clones were derived from the stock without drug selection and expressed high levels of resistance to isometamidium chloride (50% curative dose [CD50] values ...

Isometamidium concentrations in the sera of cattle maintained under a chemoprophylactic regime in a tsetse-infested area of Zimbabwe

open access: yes, 1996
An experiment was carried out to determine the concentrations of the trypanocidal drug isometamidium chloride in the sera of cattle maintained under a chemoprophylactic regimen at Rekomitjie, Zimbabwe, an area of high tsetse challenge in the Zimbabwe ...

Effect of dose on disposition kinetics of isometamidium chloride/hydrochloride in trypanosomiasis induced calves

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2013
Effect of dose on disposition kinetics of isometamidium (ISMM) in Indian buffalo calves was studied in view of limited applications of the drug in India. Buffalo calves were pre grouped and trypanosomiasis was induced using Trypanosoma evansi. ISMM was administered intravenously at 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mg/kg (body weight) to the grouped animals.

Therapeutic efficacy of isometamidium chloride in the treatment of Trypanosoma congolense infection in Sokoto Red bucks

open access: yesSavannah Veterinary Journal, 2020
Introduction: Treatment of animal trypanosomiasis using isometamidium chloride (ISM) is largely done with 1% solution however, 2% solution has been found to be more effective. In this study, therapeutic efficacy of ISM drug concentrations was studied in Trypanosoma congolense infected Sokoto Red Bucks (SRB).

The susceptibility of Trypanosoma congolense isolated in Zamb zia Province, Mozambique, to isometamidium chloride, diminazene aceturate and homidium chloride

open access: yes, 2005
Resistance to trypanocidal drugs has been detected in various African countries and is a serious impediment to the control of livestock trypanosomosis.

French Guyanan stock of Trypanosoma vivax resistant to diminazene aceturate but sensitive to isometamidium chloride

open access: yes, 2013
An isolate of T. vivax was collected from a naturally infected Zebu in French Guyana. The isolate was subsequently shown to produce pathogenic infections in both Taurine and Zebu cattle.

Cross-resistance phenotypes associated with induction of resistance to isometamidium chloride and quinapyramine sulphate in Trypanosoma congolense

open access: yes, 2014
Isometamidium chloride (Samorin Trypamidium), diminazene aceturate (Berenil, Veriben), homidium chloride (Novidium), homidium bromide (Ethidium) and the salts of quinapyramine (Trypacide, Triquin) are all anti-trypanosomal compounds that are routinely ...
