Creating Isoprenoid Diversity

Science, 1997
Living things use isoprenoids as pigments, hormones, molecular signals, and pheromones. The many variations of isoprenoid are generated by versatile enzymes that synthesize multiple products. In their Perspective, Sacchettini and Poulter discuss what the new structures of three of these cyclases, reported on pages 1811, 1815, and 1820 ...

Antihypertensive Actions of Isoprenoids

Clinical and Experimental Hypertension. Part A: Theory and Practice, 1982
Specific features of antihypertensive action of two new isoprenoid compounds, i.e. 5-nicotinooxymethyl -gamma - tocopherylnicotinate (NNT) and decaprenoic ethylester (EDP) were studied in rats. NNT and EDP were very similar to each other in their pharmacological features as far as we studied.

Isoprenoids in aging and neurodegeneration

Neurochemistry International, 1994
During aging the human brain shows a progressive increase in levels of dolichol, a reduction in levels of ubiquinone, but relatively unchanged concentrations of cholesterol and dolichyl phosphate. In a neurodegenerative disease, Alzheimer's disease, the situation is reversed with decreased levels of dolichol and increased levels of ubiquinone.

Isoprenoids/Terpenes

2022
This largest class of natural products, with >75 000 known structures, arises from a pair of five-carbon isopentenyl diphosphate isomers, one acting as a π-electron double bond carbon nucleophile, the other as an allylic cation electrophile in C–C bond alkylations.
