Visualization of a Limonene Synthesis Metabolon Inside Living Bacteria by Hyperspectral SRS Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 9, Issue 32, November 14, 2022., 2022
Monitoring biosynthesis activity at the single‐cell level is key to metabolic engineering but is still difficult to achieve in a label‐free manner. Here, the chemical composition and synthetic function of the limonene‐rich aggregates inside single engineered Escherichia coli is directly visualized using hyperspectral stimulated Raman scattering.

High Versatility of IPP and DMAPP Methyltransferases Enables Synthesis of C6, C7 and C8 Terpenoid Building Blocks

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 23, Issue 14, July 19, 2022., 2022
Nearly all known terpenes are built from the two C5 precursors DMAPP and IPP. This work characterizes several bacterial DMAPP and IPP methyltransferases that convert these building blocks in C6, C7 and C8 prenyl pyrophosphates with selectivity on deprotonation sites and stereoselectivity.

Synthesis, antibiotic structure–activity relationships, and cellulose dissolution studies of new room-temperature ionic liquids derived from lignin

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2021
Background Ionic liquids (ILs) are promising pretreatment solvents for lignocellulosic biomass, but are largely prepared from petroleum precursors. Benzaldehydes from depolymerized lignin, such as vanillin, syringaldehyde, and 4-methoxy benzaldehyde ...

Production Cost and Carbon Footprint of Biomass-Derived Dimethylcyclooctane as a High-Performance Jet Fuel Blendstock [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Near-term decarbonization of aviation requires energy-dense, renewable liquid fuels. Biomass-derived 1,4-dimethylcyclooctane (DMCO), a cyclic alkane with a volumetric net heat of combustion up to 9.2% higher than Jet A, has the potential to serve as a ...

Tn1721-induced mutation in an isoprenol degrading plasmid fromPseudomonas putida

open access: yesJournal of Industrial Microbiology, 1986
Transformation experiments using pRO1825 containing the tetracycline resistance transposonTn1721 were conducted to induce mutations in plasmid pSRQ50, which coded for acyclic isoprenol degradation. Transformants that were tetracycline resistant were examined for their ability to utilize geraniol. Strains unable to utilize geraniol were observed to have

The effect of hydrogen bonding on the reactivity of OH radicals with prenol and isoprenol: a shock tube and multi-structural torsional variational transition state theory study

open access: yes, 2022
The presence of two functional groups (OH and double bond) in C5 methyl-substituted enols (i.e., isopentenols), such as 3-methyl-2-buten-1-ol (prenol) and 3-methyl-3-buten-1-ol (isoprenol), makes them excellent biofuel candidates as fuel additives. As OH
