The title compound, ethyl 3-(9-anthryl)-5-methyl-4-isoxazolecarboxylate, C 21 H 17 NO 3 , possesses two planar ring systems that lie at 80° from coplanarity. The bond linking the two ring systems is 1.489 (3) A, indicating only partial conjugation between the two ring systems.

Synthesis of o-dimethylene isoxazole via isoxazole-fused 3-sulfolene
Tetrahedron Letters, 1992Abstract Isoxazole-fused 3-sulfolene 12 has been synthesized from the readily available starting material 7 in three steps. Heating compound 12 at 160–180 °C generates o-dimethylene isoxazole 6b which undergoes smooth cycloaddition reactions.

Studies in isoxazole chemistry. IV. Isoxazoles via isoxazolines
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 19704- or 5-Chloro- or cyanoisoxazoles, 5-chloromethylisoxazoles, and 5-methylisoxazoles were made by the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrile oxides to α-halogeno- or α-alkoxyolefins. In the case of cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene, (5a and b) the intermediate cis- and trans-4,5-dichloroisoxalines (6a and b) were isolated.

Russian Chemical Bulletin, 2007The reactions of 1,2,3,7a-tetrahydroimidazo[1,2-b]isoxazole derivatives with electrophilic reagents, such as protic acids, benzoyl chloride, BF3, and bromine, produce isoxazole, 2,2,3,3-tetramethylaziridine, and 2,3,3-trimethylpropen-2-ylamine derivatives.
