Optimal neuromuscular performance requires motor neuron phosphagen kinases
Abstract figure legend Motor neuron (MN) terminals in fruit flies, mice and humans contain phosphagen kinases, a key enzyme in their energy storage and buffering system. Here we knocked down the primary phosphagen kinase in fruit fly larvae (arginine kinase 1 (ArgK1)) but were surprised to find that MN endurance was unaffected.

Recent developments in biochemical characterization of Vitis vinifera L. varieties in Hungary
Isoelectric focusing is an effective and well reproducible method to provide information for identification of various plant species and clones if breeding or other genetic modification(s) for a given species are reflected in changes of an isozyme ...

Regulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex: Dancing to different drums in cancer
Abstract Mechanisms governing the regulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) are markedly modified in cancer cells compared to normal cells. PDC activity in normal cells is controlled by the reversible phosphorylation of three serine residues by dedicated kinases and phosphatases.

From farm to pharma, this review details the engineering of quality in medicinal plants through a science‐driven approach: it first elucidates how genetic and environmental factors inscribe the plant's phytochemical and phytopharmacological profile before harvest, and then dissects the postharvest techniques and technologies—chemical and thermal pre ...

Prediabetes Associates With Musculoskeletal Alterations Independent of Total Body Adiposity
ABSTRACT Background Excess adiposity is a major risk factor for insulin resistance, prediabetes, and Type 2 diabetes and increases the risk for sarcopenia and osteosarcopenia later in life. It has been proposed that altered metabolic function and musculoskeletal status in people with obesity are directly linked, presumably because they share common ...

Isoenzymatic variability in tropical maize populations under reciprocal recurrent selection
Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the crops in which the genetic variability has been extensively studied at isoenzymatic loci. The genetic variability of the maize populations BR-105 and BR-106, and the synthetics IG-3 and IG-4, obtained after one cycle of ...
