Interactions of the lipopeptide antifungal iturin A with lipids in mixed monolayers

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1989
The miscibility and the interactions of the antifungal lipopeptide iturin A with lipids, DMPC and cholesterol, are studied in monolayers at the air/water interface and a comparison of the respective behaviour of iturin A and the biologically inactive methylated derivative MeTyr-iturin A is made.

Structure of iturine A, a peptidolipid antibiotic from Bacillus subtilis

Biochemistry, 1978
A mixture of iturines extracted from Bacillus subtilis gave, on column chromatography, iturine A, iturine B, and iturine C. Iturine A has the entire antifungal activity. It is a mixture of two homologous peptidolipids C48,H74N12O14 and C49H76N12O14 (mp 177 degrees C, [alpha]D-1.7 degrees in methanol (c 0.05 g/mL); mol wt 1042 and 1056).

Interactions of bioactive lipopeptides, iturin A and surfactin from Bacillus subtilis

Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, 1992
The antifungal activity of iturin A and its interaction with erythrocyte membranes were enhanced in the presence of surfactin. The modification of the properties of iturin A was explained by the formation of mixed iturin A‐surfactin micelles. Such mixed micelles were easily generated when both lipopeptides were in aqueous solutions in the absence of ...

Structure of β-amino acids in antibiotics iturin A

Tetrahedron Letters, 1982
Abstract An antibiotic iturin A was separated into several components (A-1≈8) using HPLC and the structures of the β-amino acids of each component were established based on NMR and mass spectral analysis.

Simultaneous Production of MK-7 and Iturin A by Bacillus velezensis ND

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology
Bacillus velezensis can produce various secondary metabolites, such as the antibacterial compound iturin A and the coagulation-promoting menaquinone-7 (MK-7). To enhance the economic feasibility of the fermentation process, a co-production strategy, involving the simultaneous production of MK-7 and iturin A by Bacillus velezensis ND, was investigated ...
