Status of the Jack Mackerel resource and its management

2021
The jack mackerel, Trachurus symmetricus, resource off thewest coast of North America is known to be large and widelydistributed. The spawning biomass is estimated to be 2.1 to 4.8 million tons based upon abundance of jack mackerel eggs collected at sea.

Results of Jack Mackerel tagging study, 1971-75

2021
Methods and materials used to tag and recapture jack mackerel, Trachurus symmetricus, off the coast of southern Ca1ifornia and Baja California, Mexico, are described. Tagging, recapture, and movement data resulting from this program are reported. Analysis of these data indicates substantial movement of jack mackerel within the range of the California ...

Results of the jack mackerel subpopulation discrimination feasibility study

2021
A report is made on the feasibility of discriminating subpopulations of jack mackerel, Trachurus symmetricus, off of the southern California and Baja California coast. Histochemical, morphometric, and meristic characters are compared from four samples of approximately 200 fish each taken from three areas.

A status report on the Jack Mackerel tagging program

2021
Methods and materials used to tag and recapture jack mackerel, Trachurus symmetricus, off the coast of southern California and Baja California, Mexico, are described. Tagging, recapture, and movement data resulting from this program are reported. Analysis of this preliminary data indicates a seasonal inshore-offshore movement pattern for this species ...

Communication of velocity changes in jack mackerel (Trachurus symmetricus) schools

Animal Behaviour, 1969
Abstract The latency and the velocity of the response of jack mackerel, T. symmetricus , to a velocity change by a schooling companion was studied in the laboratory. Fish were tested in groups of two and six fish each. One fish in each group was given an electric shock; the responses of the other fish in the group to the increase in speed by the ...

Fishing Location decisions in the Chilean-Transzonal Jack Mackerel Fishery [PDF]

open access: possible, 2008
This study examines factors conditioning the fishing location decisions of the Chilean fleet operating in the South-east Pacific straddling jack mackerel fishery, considering voyage data for the1987-2004 period. As from the early 1990s, this fleet began to move beyond the 200 nm zone, responding to changes in the spatial distribution of the species. It
