Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

A case of drug-induced bullous pemphigoid secondary to immunotherapy treated with upadacitinib: A case report

open access: yesSAGE Open Medical Case Reports, 2023
Bullous pemphigoid is an acquired autoimmune subepidermal blistering disease that can arise following exposure to systemic medication, referred to as drug-induced bullous pemphigoid.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Indirect inhibition of the NLRP3-interleukin-1β axis contributes to the efficacy of JAK1 inhibitors in experimental colitis and human ulcerative colitis

open access: yesNature Communications
Tofacitinib, a pan–Janus kinase inhibitor, and the Janus kinase 1–preferential inhibitors Upadacitinib and Filgotinib are approved for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, yet their molecular mechanisms of action remain incompletely understood.

Identification of the protein kinases Pyk3 and Phg2 as regulators of the STATc-mediated response to hyperosmolarity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Cellular adaptation to changes in environmental osmolarity is crucial for cell survival. In Dictyostelium, STATc is a key regulator of the transcriptional response to hyperosmotic stress. Its phosphorylation and consequent activation is controlled by two

[18F]Fluorodeprenyl‐D2 PET as a Tool to Monitor Disease Activity in GAD65‐Ab Autoimmune Encephalitis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate [18F]fluorodeprenyl‐D2 ([18F]F‐DED) positron‐emission tomography (PET) imaging as a biomarker of disease activity in autoimmune encephalitis (AIE) associated with glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65) antibodies. Methods [18F]F‐DED PET was performed in 25 GAD65‐AIE patients and 8 controls using dynamic (0–60 min) and ...

An atypical mycobacterial infection while on Janus kinase inhibitor therapy [PDF]

open access: yes
Janus kinase inhibitors are immunomodulatory drugs increasingly used to treat a broad range of inflammatory dermatologic conditions. Although effective, they carry a risk of serious adverse effects, including opportunistic infections.
