Human gravity-gradient noise in interferometric gravitational-wave detectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Among all forms of routine human activity, the one which produces the strongest gravity-gradient noise in interferometric gravitational-wave detectors (e.g. LIGO) is the beginning and end of weight transfer from one foot to the other during walking.

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

A kinematical approach to dark energy studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present and employ a new kinematical approach to cosmological `dark energy' studies. We construct models in terms of the dimensionless second and third derivatives of the scale factor a(t) with respect to cosmic time t, namely the present-day value of

ALS With and Without Upper Motor Neuron Signs: A Comparative Study Supporting the Gold Coast Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The Gold Coast criteria permit diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) even without upper motor neuron (UMN) signs. However, whether ALS patients with UMN signs (ALSwUMN) and those without (ALSwoUMN) share similar characteristics and prognoses remains unclear.

Contact Lens with Moiré Patterns for High‐Precision Eye Tracking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a passive contact lens for high‐precision eye tracking, integrating a microscopic moiré grating label. The parallax‐induced shift of macroscopic moiré patterns enables angle measurement with 0.28° precision using a standard camera under ambient light.

Optimal Trajectory Scheme for Robotic Welding Along Complex Joints Using a Hybrid Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
The problem of trajectory planning is relevant for the proper use of costly robotic systems to mitigate undesirable effects such as vibration and even wear on the mechanical structure of the system.

Muscle Synergies Facilitate Computational Prediction of Subject-Specific Walking Motions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Researchers have explored a variety of neurorehabilitation approaches to restore normal walking function following a stroke. However, there is currently no objective means for prescribing and implementing treatments that are likely to maximize recovery ...

Learning Highly Dynamic Skills Transition for Quadruped Jumping Through Constrained Space

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A quadruped robot masters dynamic jumps through constrained spaces with animal‐inspired moves and intelligent vision control. This hierarchical learning approach combines imitation of biological agility with real‐time trajectory planning. Although legged animals are capable of performing explosive motions while traversing confined spaces, replicating ...
