Kappaphycus alvarezii is widely used because it contains agar, carrageenan, porpyran, furcelaran and phycobilin pigments (consisting of phycoerethrin and phycocyanin). Optimization of the utilization of K. alvarezii still needs to be improved in an effort to diversify processed products from seaweed.
