3D Printing Innovations in Polymeric Porous and Patterned Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymeric foams occupy a unique structural space between dense solids and open networks, where engineered void fraction governs mechanical compliance, thermal resistance, and mass transport. Additive manufacturing now enables precise spatial control over cellular architecture, unlocking designer foam structures across applications spanning crash ...

The Expression of Keratin 19 in Intervertebral Disc Degeneration and Aging

open access: yesGlobal Spine Journal, 2016
Introduction Low back pain (LBP) affects 80% of the whole population around the world and causes great social-economic burden. Intervertebral disc (IVD) degenerates with aging and is a major contribution to LBP.

Parametrically optimized feather degradation by Bacillus velezensis NCIM 5802 and delineation of keratin hydrolysis by multi-scale analysis for poultry waste management

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Enormous amounts of keratinaceous waste make a significant and unexploited protein reserve that can be utilized through bioconversion into high-value products using microbial keratinases. This study was intended to assess the keratinase production from a

Keratin 18 overexpression but not phosphorylation or filament organization blocks mouse Mallory body formation [PDF]

open access: yesHepatology, 2007
Several human liver diseases are associated with formation of Mallory body (MB) inclusions. These hepatocyte cytoplasmic deposits are composed primarily of hyperphosphorylated keratins 8 and 18 (K8/K18).

One-Pot Synthesis of Chicken-Feather-Keratin-Based Prodrug Nanoparticles with High Drug Content for Tumor Intracellular DOX Delivery

open access: yes, 2019
pH/reduction dual-triggered chicken-feather-keratin-based prodrug nanoparticles (C-PK/-SS-Hy-D NPs) were designed via a facile one-pot oxidation coupling reaction between the thiol-functional acid-labile prodrug M-Hy-D and the PEGylated keratin (PK ...

Self‐Assembled Skin Equivalents with Monoclonal CRISPR/Cas9‐Modified N/TERT‐1 Keratinocytes: A Cutting‐Edge model for Human Skin and its Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐assembled, scaffold‐free full‐thickness skin equivalents with monoclonal, genetically modified N/TERT‐1 keratinocytes represent a novel in vitro model of human skin and skin diseases. The model is highly robust, reproducible, physiologically relevant, and suitable for high‐throughput applications.

A Regulatory Element of the Human Keratin 18 Gene with AP-1-dependent Promoter Activity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1998
The human keratin 18 (K18) gene is expressed in a restricted but diverse subset of differentiated epithelial tissues and carcinomas. The 10-kilobase pair K18 gene contains all of the genetic information necessary for tissue-specific, copy number-dependent and integration site-independent expression in transgenic mice.

Two Routes to Land: Genomic Underpinnings of Parallel Aerial Egg Deposition in Aquatic Old‐World Pila and New‐World Pomacea (Ampullariidae)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comparative genomics of Gondwana‐diverged Pila and Pomacea reveals parallel evolution of aerial oviposition. Convergent chromosomal rearrangements reshape regulatory landscapes within topologically associating domains. Lineage‐specific gene family expansions and viral‐derived perivitelline proteins (PV1) underpin desiccation resistance.
