Threshold Energies for Single Carbon Knockout from Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons [PDF]
We have measured absolute cross sections for ultrafast (fs) single-carbon knockout from Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) cations as functions of He-PAH center-of-mass collision energy in the range 10-200 eV. Classical Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations cover this range and extend up to 10$^5$ eV. The shapes of the knockout cross sections are well

Abnormal dendritic spines in fragile X knockout mice: maturation and pruning deficits.
Fragile X syndrome arises from blocked expression of the fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP). Golgi-impregnated mature cerebral cortex from fragile X patients exhibits long, thin, tortuous postsynaptic spines resembling spines observed during ...

The NlpC_P60 superfamily of peptidases is recognised by its key role in bacterial cell wall homeostasis. Recently, studies have also described the involvement of NlpC_P60‐like enzymes in bacterial competitive mechanisms and pathogenesis across several lineages.

The MICE Muon Beam on ISIS and the beam-line instrumentation of the Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment [PDF]
The international Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE), which is under construction at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), will demonstrate the principle of ionization cooling as a technique for the reduction of the phase-space volume occupied by a muon beam.

Missing Value Estimation using Clustering and Deep Learning within Multiple Imputation Framework [PDF]
Missing values in tabular data restrict the use and performance of machine learning, requiring the imputation of missing values. The most popular imputation algorithm is arguably multiple imputations using chains of equations (MICE), which estimates missing values from linear conditioning on observed values.

Lipid transport in cholecystokinin knockout mice [PDF]
Cholecystokinin (CCK) is released in response to lipid feeding and regulates pancreatic digestive enzymes vital to the absorption of nutrients. Our previous reports demonstrated that cholecystokinin knockout (CCK-KO) mice fed for 10 weeks of HFD had reduced body fat mass, but comparable glucose uptake by white adipose tissues and skeletal muscles.

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

The clinical spectrum of SMA‐PME and in vitro normalization of its cellular ceramide profile
Abstract Objective The objectives of this study were to define the clinical and biochemical spectrum of spinal muscular atrophy with progressive myoclonic epilepsy (SMA‐PME) and to determine if aberrant cellular ceramide accumulation could be normalized by enzyme replacement.
