Emergence of Escherichia coli Sequence Type 131 (ST131) and ST3948 with KPC-2, KPC-3 and KPC-8 carbapenemases from a Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation Facility (LTCRF) in Northern Italy [PDF]
Aim of the study was to characterize KPC-producing Escherichia coli (KPC-Ec) clinical isolates among a Northern Italy Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation Facility (LTCRF) residents. Thirteen consecutive non repeated MDR E.

The Galactic Rotation Curve to R = 18 kpc [PDF]
The major stumbling block in the determination of a rotation curve beyond the solar circle has been the lack of a suitable set of objects with well defined and independently measured distances and velocities which can be observed to large galactocentric radii. Two things have changed this situation.

Modified Sleep Apnea Severity Index and Cardiovascular Risk in CPAP‐Intolerant OSA Patients
The modified sleep apnea severity index (mSASI) combines patient anatomy, weight, sleep study metrics, and symptoms into a composite OSA index ranging from 1 (least severe) to 3 (most severe). Our study found that mSASI correlated better with baseline cardiovascular risk measured by the 5‐year Framingham Risk Score compared to the AHI.

KPC Type B-Lactamase, Rural Pennsylvania
To the Editor: Rural counties have been defined as those lacking a metropolitan center that has a population >50,000 persons. Little is known about antimicrobial drug resistance in such communities in the United States. Stevenson and col- leagues recently evaluated antimi-crobial drug–resistant gram-positive infections in rural hospitals in Idaho and ...
