L-Citrulline increases nitric oxide and improves control in obese asthmatics [PDF]
BACKGROUNDThe airways of obese asthmatics have been shown to be NO deficient, and this contributes to airway dysfunction and reduced response to inhaled corticosteroids. In cultured airway epithelial cells, L-citrulline, a precursor of L-arginine recycling and NO formation, has been shown to prevent asymmetric dimethyl arginine-mediated (ADMA-mediated)

Woody breast compromises meat quality leading to reduced consumer appeal. Although its causes are unclear, improvements observed with certain dietary supplements suggest that gut health may influence woody breast development. Ribonucleotide reductase subunit RRM2 is vital for mitochondrial function and gastrointestinal integrity, and alteration in its ...

Objective Anticitrullinated protein antibodies (ACPAs) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can be promiscuous, with cross‐reactive binding to many antigens containing short motifs, or private with little cross‐reactivity. Also, ACPA reactivity patterns differ among patients with RA, including for motif‐containing epitopes in important self‐antigens like ...

Cathepsin B‐sensitive peptide–adjuvant conjugates are designed, synthesized, and evaluated to deliver an antigenic peptid and an adjuvant targeting Toll‐like receptors 7 and 8 (TLR7/8) to antigen presenting cells. The adjuvant is released by cathepsin B resulting in antigen presentation and TLR mediated T cell activation.

Metformin is the most widely prescribed antidiabetic drug, yet adherence remains difficult to objectively assess. Using untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics, we analyzed plasma from 637 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) with confirmed metformin use and 143 nondiabetic controls, annotating 614 metabolites.

Nitric oxide production by Biomphalaria glabrata haemocytes: effects of Schistosoma mansoni ESPs and regulation through the extracellular signal-regulated kinase pathway [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Schistosoma mansoni uses Biomphalaria glabrata as an intermediate host during its complex life cycle. In the snail, the parasite initially transforms from a miracidium into a mother sporocyst and during this process excretory-secretory ...
