P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 forms dimeric interactions with E-selectin but monomeric interactions with L-selectin on cell surfaces. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Interactions of selectins with cell surface glycoconjugates mediate the first step of the adhesion and signaling cascade that recruits circulating leukocytes to sites of infection or injury.

Calmodulin adopts an extended conformation when interacting with L-selectin in membranes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Calmodulin, an intracellular calcium-binding protein, is thought to regulate ectodomain shedding of many membrane proteins, but the underlying molecular mechanism has remained unclear.

Synthetic Glycoprotein Mimics Inhibit L-Selectin-Mediated Rolling and Promote L-Selectin Shedding [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry & Biology, 2004
L-selectin is a leukocyte cell-surface protein that facilitates the rolling of leukocytes along the endothelium, a process that leads to leukocyte migration to a site of infection. Preventing L-selectin-mediated rolling minimizes leukocyte adhesion and extravasation; therefore, compounds that inhibit rolling may act as anti-inflammatory agents.

Interaction of Calmodulin with l-Selectin at the Membrane Interface: Implication on the Regulation of l-Selectin Shedding [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Biology, 2011
The calmodulin (CaM) hypothesis of ectodomain shedding stipulates that CaM, an intracellular Ca²⁺-dependent regulatory protein, associates with the cytoplasmic domain of L-selectin to regulate ectodomain shedding of L-selectin on the other side of the plasma membrane.

Homing in on L-Selectin [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2006
By 1983, when the article by Gallatin, Weissman, and Butcher ([1][1]) was published in Nature , it was clear that blood-borne lymphocytes migrate selectively (“home”) to secondary lymphoid organs.

Maternal, Fetal, and Placental Selectins in Women With Pre-eclampsia; Association With the Renin-Angiotensin-System

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2020
Selectins [endothelial (E), platelet (P), and leucocytes (L)] are a class of cell adhesion molecules, stimulated in response to inflammation. Pre-eclampsia is characterized by inflammation, and angiotensin II is pro-inflammatory.

Transcriptional regulation of mouse l-selectin [PDF]

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Regulatory Mechanisms, 2009
L-selectin mediates the initial tethering and rolling of lymphocytes in high endothelial venules. To study the transcriptional regulation of mouse L-selectin, we cloned 4.5 kb 5'-flanking sequences of the mouse sell. Luciferase analysis of serial 5'-deletion mutants showed that the first 285 bp was sufficient to drive high promoter activity in EL4 ...

Dysregulation of Biomarkers of Hemostatic Activation and Inflammatory Processes are Associated with Adverse Outcomes in Pulmonary Embolism

open access: yesClinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis, 2022
Introduction The pathophysiology of pulmonary embolism (PE) represents complex, multifactorial processes involving blood cells, vascular endothelium, and the activation of inflammatory pathways.

L-selectin Is Essential for Delivery of Activated CD8+ T Cells to Virus-Infected Organs for Protective Immunity

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
Cytotoxic CD8+ T lymphocytes play a critical role in the host response to infection by viruses. The ability to secrete cytotoxic chemicals and cytokines is considered pivotal for eliminating virus. Of equal importance is how effector CD8+ T cells home to

Serum E-selectin and endothelial cell-specific Molecule-1 levels among people living with HIV on long term ART in Uganda: a pilot cross-sectional study

open access: yesAIDS Research and Therapy, 2023
Background Prolonged exposure to HIV and anti-retroviral therapy (ART) has been linked with endothelial cell activation which subsequently predisposes people living with HIV (PLWH) to cardiovascular diseases.
