Neutrophil Adhesion to Fibrinogen and Fibrin Under Flow Conditions Is Diminished by Activation and L-Selectin Shedding [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The adhesion of neutrophils (polymorphonuclear leukocytes [PMNs]) to immobilized fibrinogen/fibrin is mediated by b2-integrins. However, the influence of physiologic flow con- ditions on neutrophil adhesion to these surfaces is poorly defined.

Animal lectins as cell adhesion molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Protein-carbohydrate interaction is exploited in cell adhesion mechanisms besides the recognition of peptide motifs. The sugar code thus significantly contributes to the intriguing specificity of cellular selection of binding partners.

Studying Macromolecular Composition in Cell–Cell Interfaces Using 3D Membrane Reconstitution Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A comprehensive understanding of the interactions between proteins, lipids and glycocalyx components at the immune synapse is still lacking. Here, an artificial and a semi‐artificial model contact system were established to reconstitute the cell‐cell contact in 3D. The model systems enable the examination of macromolecule enrichment or depletion at the

A HEV-restricted sulfotransferase is expressed in rheumatoid arthritis synovium and is induced by lymphotoxin-alpha/beta and TNF-alpha in cultured endothelial cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
BackgroundThe recruitment of lymphocytes to secondary lymphoid organs relies on interactions of circulating cells with high endothelial venules (HEV). HEV are exclusive to these organs under physiological conditions, but they can develop in chronically ...

Lyophilized Synthetic Platelets: In Vitro Characterization and in Vivo Evaluation in Mouse Thrombocytopenia Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Platelet transfusions to treat bleeding complications use donor‐derived platelets stored at room‐temperature, that have a shelf‐life of only 5–7 days due to bacterial contamination risks. Cold‐stored and freeze‐dried platelets are being investigated for extending shelf‐life, but these still have the inherent challenge of donor‐dependency.

Alterations in Circulating Adhesion Molecules in Acute Myocardial Infarction before and after Thrombolysis with Streptokinase [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Research, 2013
Introduction: The role of adhesion molecules in the development and progression of coronary atherosclerosis is inevitable. It is not clear yet whether these molecules increase or decrease in level after thrombolytic therapy.

PRMT5/Sohlh2/Sirt1 Signaling Pathway in Vascular Endothelial Cells Modulates Lung Metastasis of Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The cover image shows that vascular endothelial cells play an important role in lung metastasis of TNBC. Endothelial Sohlh2 acts as a gatekeeper against TNBC lung metastasis by limiting endothelial activation and tumor cell passage. PRMT5 reduces Sohlh2 stability, weakening this protective barrier.

Circulating selectins as potential biomarkers for sarcopenia: a case-control study

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
BackgroundThis study investigates the association between circulating E-selectin, L-selectin, and P-selectin levels and sarcopenia in older adults.MethodsWe conducted a case-control study of 325 older adults (261 controls, 64 sarcopenia cases ...

Protein Biochip Array of Adhesion Molecule Expression in Peripheral Blood of Patients with Nasal Polyposis

open access: yesThe International Journal of Biological Markers, 2008
Nasal polyposis is a chronic non-infectious inflammatory disease of the nasal and paranasal cavity mucosa of unknown multifactorial origin in which inflammatory cells, and in particular eosinophils, seem to play a pivotal role.

L-selectin and beta(2)-integrin expression on circulating bovine polymorphonuclear leukocytes during endotoxin mastitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The aim of this in vivo study was to examine the effect of intramammarily administered endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) on the expression of L-selectin (CD62L) and the beta(2)-integrin subunits CD11b and CD18 on circulating bovine PMN.
