RESPIRATION OF STRAIN L CELLS AND OF THEIR VARIANT, LE CELLS

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1964
The oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide production of strain L cells and their variant LE cells were measured by using Warburg techniques with glucose as the sole substrate. The variant LE cells consumed oxygen at a greater rate than did the parent strain L cells.

Acetylcholine Responses in L Cells

Science, 1972
L cells, a family of continuous cell lines of mouse fibroblastic origin, generate a prolonged active membrane hyperpolarization (the hyperpolarizing activation response) when stimulated mechanically or electrically. Iontophoretically applied acetylcholine elicits a similar response; atropine blocks the acetylcholine but not the electrically or ...

Polyribosomes from L cells

Experimental Cell Research, 1969
Abstract High yields of polyribosomes from suspensions of L cells and other types of cell rich in intracellular hydrolases have been obtained after disruption of the cells by nitrogen cavitation. Such polyribosome preparations have been used for in vitro amino acid incorporation into polypeptides.

Cytochromes of a mammalian cell, the L-Cell, in tissue culture

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1968
Abstract L-Cells were extracted for cytochrome c and acid-acetone soluble hemes a and b. A mitochondrial fraction was observed spectrophotometrically. The components of the respiratory chain were studied by addition of specific substrates, and cytochromes a, b, and c were demonstrated.

Carbomycin resistance in mouse L cells

Somatic Cell Genetics, 1977
A mutant has been isolated from the mouse cell line LM(TK-) which is stably resistant to the macrolide antibiotic, carbomycin. Mitochondrial protein synthesis in this mutant was carbomycin resistant and chloramphenicol sensitive. Fusions between carbomycin-resistant and -sensitive cells produced hybrids, most of which were sensitive to 10 microgram/ml ...

The L-cell and D-cell of mitosis

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1983
The two daughter cells produced by the mitosis of an eukaryotic cell present some patterns of organization with mirror-symmetry. For example, during the metaphase the succession of chromosomes in the ring of equatorial plate develop in the clockwise direction for the daughter D-cell and in the counter clockwise direction for the daughter L-cell.

Characterization of a Nutritive Synchrony in L-cells

Beiträge zur Pathologie, 1973
Summary A synchronization method in L-cells producing nutritive stagnation of the cells in G 1 is presented. After reinnoculation, cells proceed through the cycle in the normal 24 hours. The method has the advantage that no chemical blockers are added to the system and a large number of cells is obtained.

The metabolism of l-fucose by HeLa cells

Experimental Cell Research, 1968
Abstract HeLa cells incorporate 14 C- l -fucose directly into macromolecules with no detectable randomization of 14 C-activity into other sugars. The pathway of incorporation probably proceeds via GDP- l -fucose, the concentration of which increases markedly when l -fucose is present in the growth medium.

Erythromycin resistance in mouse L cells

Somatic Cell Genetics, 1979
The sensitivity of mouse cell lines in culture to the macrolide antibiotic, erythromycin stearate, was investigated. Both resistant and sensitive lines were found. Experiments indicated that in sensitive cells erythromycin stearate inhibits mitochondrial protein synthesis.
