Statins induce monocytic differentiation in acute myeloid leukemia cells through the KLF4/DPYSL2A axis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Statins, identified via the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database, promote monocytic differentiation and apoptosis in non‐APL AML cells by upregulating DPYSL2A through a KLF4‐dependent pathway. Mevalonate supplementation reversed these effects, indicating involvement of the mevalonate pathway.

Inhibition of pancreatic cholesterol esterase reduces cholesterol absorption in the hamster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
BACKGROUND: Pancreatic cholesterol esterase has three proposed functions in the intestine: 1) to control the bioavailability of cholesterol from dietary cholesterol esters; 2) to contribute to incorporation of cholesterol into mixed micelles; and 3) to ...

TOTAL SYNTHESES OF MOKKO LACTONE, DEHYDROCOSTUS LACTONE, AND EREMANTHIN [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry Letters, 1984
Abstract A series of guaianolides such as mokko lactone, dehydrocostus lactone, and eremanthin which posses a common structural unit in A ring have been synthesized from 1-oxoeudesm-2-eno-13,6α-lactone in 7 steps. The key step involves solvolytic rearrangement of 1β-mesyloxyeudesm-4(14)-eno-13,6α-lactone.

High‐Performance Low‐Emissivity Paints Enabled by N‐Doped Poly(benzodifurandione) (n‐PBDF) for Energy‐Efficient Buildings

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a scalable and colored low‐emissivity (low‐e) paint achieved by spraying an ultrathin n‐doped poly(benzodifurandione) (n‐PBDF) coating onto various colored substrates. The low‐e paint enhances thermal regulation by reducing mid‐infrared thermal emissivity to 0.19, thereby stabilizing indoor temperatures across diverse climates ...

Solid-Phase Synthesis of Optically Active Substituted 2 Aminofuranones Using an Activated Carbonate Linker

open access: yesMolecules, 2009
An efficient three-step solid-phase synthesis of diverse 3,5-disubstituted-2-aminofuranones has been developed. α-Hydroxy acids loaded on a nitrophenyl carbonate derivative of Wang resin are used as acylating agents for the C-acylation of active ...

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Leishmanicidal Activity of Aliphatic and Aromatic Lactones: Correlation Structure-Activity

open access: yesMolecules, 2009
Several aliphatic and aromatic lactones and two dimers were synthesized using the sequence: allylation - esterification - metathesis. These compounds were active in vitro against intracellular amastigotes of Leishmania panamensis.

Quorum-quenching activity of the AHL-lactonase from Bacillus licheniformis DAHB1 inhibits vibrio biofilm formation in vitro and reduces shrimp intestinal colonisation and mortality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a significant cause of gastroenteritis resulting from the consumption of undercooked sea foods and often cause significant infections in shrimp aquaculture. Vibrio virulence is associated with biofilm formation and is regulated

Inducing Chirality and Chiral Instabilities in Ferrogels with Homogenous Magnetic Fields

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
By pre‐aligning magnetic particles into chains, significant chiral deformations are induced by fixing the base of a cylindrical actuator and applying a homogeneous magnetic field. Subsequent base rotation can drive the system into metastable states. Further rotation or reduction of field strength triggers a chiral instability, characterized by a switch
