Diets in Lactose Intolerance

open access: yesAnnals of Nutrition and Metabolism, 1971
Diets served in lactose intolerance were prepared hitherto by elimination of milk and milk products which is associated with a number of difficulties and dangers. The authors draw attention to the possibility to reduce these difficulties by a differentiated selection of foods as regards their different lactose and calcium content.

Probiotics and Lactose Intolerance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In normal physiological conditions lactose is hydrolyzed by lactase also known as lactasephlorizin hydrolase and under its systemic name lactosegalactosehydrolase (EC 3.2.1.108), which is a brush-border membrane bound enzyme. Glucose and galactose are taken up by the intestinal cells and transported into the bloodstream (Fig. 1). A considerable part of

Clinical Evaluation of Potential Interaction Between Bemnifosbuvir and Ruzasvir With an Assessment of Food Effect: Results of a Phase 1 Study in Healthy Participants

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology in Drug Development, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 461-471, June 2025.
Abstract A combination of nucleotide hepatitis C virus (HCV) nonstructural protein (NS) 5B and 5A inhibitors is a preferred standard of care for treating chronic HCV. Bemnifosbuvir is a novel oral guanosine nucleotide prodrug with potent pan‐genotypic inhibitory activity against HCV NS5B.

Bacteroides, Metabolites, and Lymphocytes: A Triad of Biomarkers in Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2025.
We identified lymphocyte count as a potential predictor of SIBO in middle‐aged and elderly non‐obese men. Additionally, our findings revealed significant associations between SIBO and symptoms such as diarrhea and acid reflux, as well as alterations in gut microbiota—specifically the predominance of Bacteroides—and metabolic pathways.

Considerations for development of lactose-free food

open access: yesJournal of Nutrition & Intermediary Metabolism, 2019
Lactose intolerance is a pathophysiological situation that occurs due to insufficiency of the “lactase” enzyme present in the jejunum. Ingestion of lactose containing products leads to alteration in intestinal digestion and colonic fermentation, leading ...

How to Keep Lactose Avoiders Healthy

open access: yesDairy
A large portion of the world’s population has lactose intolerance. Fundamentally, this condition occurs when the small intestine does not produce enough of the lactase enzyme, which digests the disaccharide lactose in milk.
