Probiotic treatment in children with lactose intolerance – An open labeled the one group pre-test post-test experimental study

open access: yesPaediatrica Indonesiana, 2016
Background Lactose intolerance is the most common disorder of intestinal carbohydrate digestion. Probiotic that contains the cor- rect strain in appropriate amount can be used as an alternative dietary for lactose intolerance patients.

Thin InSb layers with metallic gratings: a novel platform for spectrally-selective THz plasmonic sensing [PDF]

open access: yesOpt. Express 24, 19448 (2016), 2016
We present a computational study of terahertz optical properties of a grating-coupled plasmonic structure based on micrometer-thin InSb layers. We find two strong absorption resonances that we interpret as standing surface plasmon modes and investigate their dispersion relations, dependence on InSb thickness, and the spatial distribution of the ...

Symptoms of ‘lactose intolerance’

open access: yesNäringsforskning, 2001
Factors affecting or confounding the symptoms of lactose intolerance were examined by us in randomised, placebo-controlled and double-blind studies on healthy adult subjects. Evaluation of the diagnostic methods of lactose intolerance showed that cut-off values, according to the blood glucose values, varied widely.

Lactose Intolerance: Common Misunderstandings [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Nutrition and Metabolism, 2018
Lactose intolerance primarily refers to a syndrome having different symptoms upon the consumption of foods containing lactose. It is one of the most common form of food intolerance and occurs when lactase activity is reduced in the brush border of the small bowel mucosa.

Understanding how foods and enteral feedings influence the gut microbiome

open access: yesNutrition in Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract The gut microbiome supports both gut and overall health. Diet is known to be one of the driving factors that influences the gut microbiome. The foods we eat, the dietary and nondietary components they contain, various food consumption patterns, and the ratio of nutrients consumed have been shown to impact gut microbiome composition and ...

Metallo-Dielectric Multilayer Structure for Lactose Malabsorption Diagnosis through H2 Breath Test [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
A metallo-dielectric multilayer structure is proposed as a novel approach to the analysis of lactose malabsorption. When lactose intolerance occurs, the bacterial overgrowth in the intestine causes an increased spontaneous emission of H2 in the human breath.

Mutual Intolerance Effect in Entangled Qubit Pairs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Analysis of the recently proposed thought experiment with the path entangled photon pairs is extended here to spin entangled electron pairs. The detailed comparison of the two cases showed the range of distinctions and similarities in their monitoring. The general results contradict the Concurrency Rule stating that intimately linked characteristics of

Bistability of the lac operon during growth of Escherichia coli on lactose and lactose + glucose [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
The lac operon of Escherichia coli exhibits bistability. Early studies showed that bistability occurs during growth on TMG/succinate and lactose + glucose, but not during growth on lactose. More recent studies with lacGFP-transfected cells show bistability with TMG/succinate, but not with lactose and lactose + glucose.

Organic Terahertz Generators with Wide Entire‐Molecular Phonon‐Free Range and Their Application in Broadband Terahertz Spectroscopy

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
Fluorinated organic crystals with orthogonal cation–anion dipole coupling generate significantly higher and broader THz waves (0.5−2.7 THz) than nonfluorinated benchmark counterparts with a smooth, dimple‐free spectrum. Their wide phonon‐free region (0.9–2.3 THz) enables sensitive detection of biologically important lactose in commercial infant ...

European Consensus on Malabsorption—UEG & SIGE, LGA, SPG, SRGH, CGS, ESPCG, EAGEN, ESPEN, and ESPGHAN

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Malabsorption is a complex and multifaceted condition characterised by the defective passage of nutrients into the blood and lymphatic streams. Several congenital or acquired disorders may cause either selective or global malabsorption in both children and adults, such as cystic fibrosis, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), coeliac ...
