After activation, Langerhans cells (LC), a distinct subpopulation of epidermis-resident dendritic cells, migrate from skin to lymph nodes where they regulate the magnitude and quality of immune responses initiated by epicutaneously applied antigens ...

Anchored phosphatases modulate glucose homeostasis. [PDF]
Endocrine release of insulin principally controls glucose homeostasis. Nutrient-induced exocytosis of insulin granules from pancreatic β-cells involves ion channels and mobilization of Ca(2+) and cyclic AMP (cAMP) signalling pathways.

The Origin of Langerhans Cells
Langerhans cells constitute a morphologically well-characterized subpopulation (3--8%) of mammalian epidermal cells and, in contrast to the bulk of epidermal cells, bear Fc-IgG and C3 receptors, express immune response associated (Ia) antigens, and function as antigen presenting cells and allogeneic stimulatory cells to primed T lymphocytes.

Hypothalamically-Induced Insulin Release and its Potentiation During Oral and Intravenous Glucose Loads [PDF]
Male Wistar rats were provided with bilateral cannulas in the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) and cannulas in the left and right jugular vein. Freely moving rats provided in this way with cannulas were infused with transmitters in the LHA and with ...

Histiocytosis from Langerhans Cells with Isolated Lung Injury in a 3-year-old Child
Histiocytosis from Langerhans cells with isolated lung injury is described in a 3-year-old child. The data available in the literature on the incidence and mechanisms of pathogenesis and the disease are given.

An unusual case of intertrigo in an adult caused by purely cutaneous Langerhans cell histiocytosis [PDF]
We report a case of persistent intertrigo in an adult, eventually diagnosed as cutaneous Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). It is known that LCH has a predilection for intertriginous areas, however purely cutaneous disease as in our case, is uncommon ...

Immunological characterization of chromogranins A and B and secretogranin II in the bovine pancreatic islet [PDF]
Antisera against chromogranin A and B and secretogranin II were used for analysing the bovine pancreas by immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry. All three antigens were found in extracts of fetal pancreas by one dimensional immunoblotting. A comparison

Pathophysiology of Langerhans cells
Langerhans cells (LCs) were first described by Paul Langerhans, in 1868, as dendritically shaped cells, which were located in the squamous epithelia of epidermis. Later on, these cells were identified in all stratified squamous epithelium of mammals. Dendritic cells (DCs) play an important role in local defense mechanisms in the epithelium.

Skin-limited Langerhans cell histiocytosis in an adult: a case report
Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is an idiopathic group of disorders characterized histologically by proliferation and infiltration of tissue by Langerhans cell-type histiocytes. This disease can affect various organs.
