Collection of islets of Langerhans using an equilibrium method

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2013
Here we present a convenient method for easy hand selection of enzymatically isolated small tissues such as islets of Langerhans. Islets are continuously collected in a micropipette tip connected to a peristaltic pump.

Expression of vitamin D receptor, CYP24A1, and CYP27B1 in normal and inflamed canine pancreases

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2023
Vitamin D plays a role in anti-inflammatory processes, and the alteration of its metabolism is associated with the inflammatory processes of pancreatitis.

Resident macrophages of pancreatic islets have a seminal role in the initiation of autoimmune diabetes of NOD mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Significance Our studies indicate that the resident macrophages of the pancreatic islets of Langerhans have a seminal role in the initiation and progression of autoimmune diabetes in NOD mice.

Oxygen Supply of Islets of Langerhans by Photosynthetically Active Microalgae in Bioprinted Co‐Cultures Maintains Their Function in a Hypoxic Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study developed a bioprinted co‐culture system embedding rat pancreatic islets and Scenedesmus sp. microalgae spatially defined in close vicinity. Red light was found optimal to ensure microalgal photosynthesis while maintaining islet viability and functionality. A tailored co‐culture medium supported both cell types.

Reinnervation of Isolated Islets of Langerhans Transplanted beneath the Kidney Capsule in the Rat

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 1994
Neural regulation of islets of Langerhans mediates responses to stress and food ingestion. Transplantation of isolated islets offers hope to patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus but denervation of isolated islets may affect the capacity for ...

Decoding the Pathophysiology of Autoimmune Diseases—Mechanism, Triggers, and Nanotherapeutics: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This review highlights how autoimmune diseases arise from intertwined immunological, genetic, and environmental factors, emphasizing gut microbiota dysbiosis as a pivotal driver. It outlines emerging nanotechnology‐based strategies—such as liposomes, hydrogels, and polymeric nanoparticles—that enhance targeted drug delivery, minimize systemic toxicity,

Islets of Langerhans Are Protected from Inflammatory Cell Recruitment during Reperfusion of Rat Pancreas Grafts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury plays a pivotal role in the development of graft pancreatitis, with ischemia time representing one of its crucial factors.

Rodent monocyte‐derived macrophages do not express CD163: Comparative analysis using macrophages from living boreoeutherians

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background CD163 is a scavenger receptor predominantly expressed on the surfaces of macrophages in various mammalian species and is a marker of anti‐inflammatory (M2‐like) macrophages. High density of CD163‐positive tumor‐associated macrophages (TAMs) is associated with worse prognosis in various patient tumors.

Effect of Ganoderma lucidum hydroalcoholic extract on insulin release in rat-isolated pancreatic islets [PDF]

open access: yesAvicenna Journal of Phytomedicine, 2012
Objective: Ganoderma Lucidum (G. Lucidum) has been suggested to increase serum insulin level. This study was undertaken to investigateits direct effect on the islets of Langerhans.
