Toward a structure-based comprehension of the lectin pathway of complement [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Immunology, 2013
To initiate the lectin pathway of complement pattern recognition molecules bind to surface-linked carbohydrates or acetyl groups on pathogens or damaged self-tissue. This leads to activation of the serine proteases MASP-1 and MASP-2 resulting in deposition of C4 on the activator and assembly of the C3 convertase.

Megasphaera Elesdenii Dysregulates Colon Epithelial Homeostasis, Aggravates Colitis‐Associated Tumorigenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A fecal microbial meta‐analysis reveals that Megasphaera is highly abundant in the Asian population with IBD and CRC. M. elsdenii reshapes colonic immunity by triggering DC cell‐mediated Th1 and Th17 inflammation. M. elsdenii and M. elsdenii‐enriched microbiota exacerbate colonic inflammation and tumorigenesis in AOM/DSS mice.

Constitutive Androstane Receptor in Macrophages Regulates Toll‐Like Receptor 4‐Mediated Innate Immune Responses Against Endotoxemic Liver Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The present study uncovers a novel role of constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) in inflammation‐mediated damage. CAR activation in macrophages inhibits proinflammatory macrophages by interacting with Tlr4, which protects against endotoxemic liver injury.

Assessment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Metastasis Glycobiomarkers Using Advanced Quantitative N-glycoproteome Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2017
Hepatocelluar carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors with high incidence of metastasis. Glycosylation is involved in fundamental molecular and cell biology process occurring in cancer including metastasis formation.

The structure of the PapD-PapGII pilin complex reveals an open and flexible P5 pocket [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
P pili are hairlike polymeric structures that mediate binding of uropathogenic Escherichia coli to the surface of the kidney via the PapG adhesin at their tips.

Secondary Bile Acids Modified by Odoribacter Splanchnicus Alleviate Colitis by Suppressing Neutrophil Extracellular Trap Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In ulcerative colitis, the loss of Odoribacter splanchnicus disrupts a microbiota‐metabolite‐neutrophil axis. Restoring this bacterium boosts lithocholic acid, which suppress neutrophil extracellular trap formation and eases colonic inflammation.

Glutaredoxin GRXS17 associates with the cytosolic iron-sulfur cluster assembly pathway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Cytosolic monothiol glutaredoxins (GRXs) are required in iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster delivery and iron sensing in yeast and mammals. In plants, it is unclear whether they have similar functions.

Novel Swelling‐Lytic Cell Death Triggered by Cargo‐Free Ionizable Lipid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cargo‐free ionizable lipid nanoparticles (ipLNP) is found to induce broad swelling‐lytic cell death across multiple cell types. Cell death may be associated with lysosome membrane destabilization, involving ROS increase, lipid peroxidation, and GSDME cleavage.

Decoding a Gut Commensal Signal: Structural and Immunological Profiling of Segatella Copri Lipopolysaccharide

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of Segatella copri is a structurally unique, immunomodulatory glycoconjugate. Combining mass spectrometry (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and cytometry by time‐of‐flight (CyTOF), we uncover a rough‐type LPS with reduced TLR4 agonism and selective monocyte effects, further highlighting the key role of LPS chemistry ...
