The Problem of Christ’s Acquired Knowledge
Abstract Thomas Aquinas is universally applauded for his “courage and perspicacity” in eventually admitting an acquired knowledge in Christ. According to this doctrine, Christ, through the experience of his senses, came to know what he previously did not know.

Teaching plant identification at a university in the age of artificial intelligence
Society depends on experts able to correctly identify plants. This skill set is taught at university, classically using tools such as identification keys. The advent of artificial intelligence apps for identification, while benefiting society in many ways, poses a challenge for university education: Students may not see the need for learning skills ...

To this end, the paper outlines the understanding of

A Parameterized Complexity Analysis of Bi-level Optimisation with Evolutionary Algorithms [PDF]
Bi-level optimisation problems have gained increasing interest in the field of combinatorial optimisation in recent years. With this paper, we start the runtime analysis of evolutionary algorithms for bi-level optimisation problems.

Latent Ideological Positions of Swiss Parties and Subsets of the Population
Abstract Prominent theories of political representation consider ideology to be a central concept that links political elites and citizens. However, studies usually rely on different data and measures to operationalize this concept. This paper presents a two‐step estimation strategy for measuring the ideological positions of parties and population ...

First Steps Towards a Runtime Comparison of Natural and Artificial Evolution
Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) form a popular optimisation paradigm inspired by natural evolution. In recent years the field of evolutionary computation has developed a rigorous analytical theory to analyse their runtime on many illustrative problems ...

Einfluss der Säurereaktivität von Carbeniumionen in Zeolithen auf den Methanol‐zu‐Olefinen‐Prozess
Herein we studied the Brønsted acid reactivity of polymethylbenzenium and alkyl‐substituted cyclopentenyl cations, key intermediates in the methanol‐to‐olefins process in ZSM‐5 zeolite. CD3CN selectively and reversibly deprotonates benzenium ions, while cyclopentenyl cations require stronger bases.
