Stochastic duels with lethal dose

Naval Research Logistics Quarterly, 1970
This paper introduces the idea of lethal dose to achieve a kill and examines its effect on the course and final outcome of a duel. Results have been illustrated for a particular case of exponential firing rates.

Lethal catatonia responding to high-dose olanzapine therapy

Journal of Psychopharmacology, 2001
We present the case of a 31-year-old woman with recent refractory bipolar disorder who developed a malignant syndrome preceded by catatonic motor features. This resistant case of lethal catatonia responded selectively to high-dose olanzapine treatment.

The median lethal dose and its estimation

Archives of Toxicology, 1985
An important paper by Zbinden and Fluri-Roversi (1981) has shown the many weaknesses in any policy or regulatory system that regards an estimated LD50 in an animal species as an adequate guide to toxicity in man. The present paper draws attention to some statistical aspects of LD50 estimation that are too often neglected or misunderstood when this ...

Supra-lethal dose—a concept never explained

International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1976
Tumor lethal dosage, Optimum dose, Supra-iethal effect. For many years the radiotherapist has been primarily concerned with the relationship between tumor lethal dosage, normal tissue tolerante and acceptable levels of morbidity, or what is considered an “optimum dose”, a concept which correlates total dose, number of fractions, overall-time, volume ...

Protecting Liver From Painkiller's Lethal Dose

Science, 2002
TOXICOLOGYOverdoses of the painkiller acetaminophen can cause severe, sometimes fatal liver damage. New results, reported on page [422][1] of this issue, help explain just how acetaminophen harms the liver. They may also provide a target for treating liver failure due to overdoses of acetaminophen and perhaps of other drugs as well.

Toxicity of Histamine: Lethal Doses

1966
For a substance, such as histamine, whose normal physiological role has not been completely established (Feldberg, 1954; Gaddum, 1948; Jancso, 1947; Kahlson, 1960; Parrot and Reuse, 1954; Rocha e Silva, 1955; Schayer, 1961), it is difficult to delimit when the effects should be considered toxic.

Hypothermia Against Lethal Dose of Mechlorethamine

Archives of Surgery, 1961
One of the problems involved in regional perfusion for cancer chemotherapy is protection of the bone marrow outside of the perfused area due to "leak" of the antitumor agent from the perfused area. Since in vitro experiments have shown that reduction in incubation temperature below 37 C depresses the antitumor effect of certain alkylating agents ...

Lethal Dose Studies with X-Rays

Radiology, 1945
I. IntroductionBiological evaluation is as indispensable in study of the therapeutic potentiality of radiations as in that of drugs, hormones, or vitamins. This is particularly true of radiations of short wave length, such as x-rays, which are known to produce permanent and irreversible changes. It is well known that there are two fundamentals upon ...
