The median lethal dose and its estimation
Archives of Toxicology, 1985An important paper by Zbinden and Fluri-Roversi (1981) has shown the many weaknesses in any policy or regulatory system that regards an estimated LD50 in an animal species as an adequate guide to toxicity in man. The present paper draws attention to some statistical aspects of LD50 estimation that are too often neglected or misunderstood when this ...

Approximate lethal dose versus median lethal dose in acute toxicity testing of pharmaceuticals
Archives of Toxicology, 1989The relation between approximate lethal doses (ALD, i.e. the lowest dose at which mortality occurs) and the corresponding median lethal doses (LD50) was investigated in 231 acute toxicity studies in mice and rats. The ALD values were divided into four classes (less than 5 mg/kg, 5-50 mg/kg, 50-500 mg/kg, 500-2000 mg/kg) and the LD50/ALD factors were ...

Determination of Lethal Dose in a Protozoa
Investigative Radiology, 1981Suitability of a protozoan culture for determination of contrast media (CM) toxicity was investigated. A culture of Blepharisma americanum was exposed to varying concentrations of CM and the time elapsed until 50% cell mortality was determined. The cultures were standardized using solutions of Na iothalamate and/or Metrizamide.

Survival After a Lethal Dose of Arsenic Trioxide
Journal of Toxicology: Clinical Toxicology, 2004A case of a 27-year-old woman who ingested 9000 mg arsenic trioxide (As2O3) is reported. Classical symptoms of an acute arsenicum (As) poisoning such as gastrointestinal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, ECG changes and disturbed liver function tests were observed.

Stochastic duels with lethal dose
Naval Research Logistics Quarterly, 1970This paper introduces the idea of lethal dose to achieve a kill and examines its effect on the course and final outcome of a duel. Results have been illustrated for a particular case of exponential firing rates.

Toxicity of Histamine: Lethal Doses
1966For a substance, such as histamine, whose normal physiological role has not been completely established (Feldberg, 1954; Gaddum, 1948; Jancso, 1947; Kahlson, 1960; Parrot and Reuse, 1954; Rocha e Silva, 1955; Schayer, 1961), it is difficult to delimit when the effects should be considered toxic.

Protection by phalloidin against lethal doses of phalloidin
Agents and Actions, 1976Tolerated doses of phalloidin, a toxin from the mushroom Amanita phalloides, protect mice against lethal doses of phalloidin. Resistance is conferred by the 1/10 LD95 of phalloidin and sets in at about 8 hours after the pretreatment.
