Essential plasticity and redundancy of metabolism unveiled by synthetic lethality analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We unravel how functional plasticity and redundancy are essential mechanisms underlying the ability to survive of metabolic networks. We perform an exhaustive computational screening of synthetic lethal reaction pairs in Escherichia coli in a minimal medium and we find that synthetic lethal pairs divide in two different groups depending on whether the ...

Rethinking the role of alpha toxin in Clostridium perfringens-associated enteric diseases : a review on bovine necro-haemorrhagic enteritis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Bovine necro-haemorrhagic enteritis is an economically important disease caused by Clostridium perfringens type A strains. The disease mainly affects calves under intensive rearing conditions and is characterized by sudden death associated with small ...

Salt‐Compact Albumin as a New Pure Protein‐based Biomaterials: From Design to In Vivo Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
A new class of materials built entirely of native albumin protein is designed using a simple protocol based on salt‐assisted compaction, breaking with current crosslinking strategies. This green process leads, surprisingly, to water‐insoluble handable materials with high preservation of their native protein structures and Young's modulus close to that ...

The Dynamic Behavior (Effects) of Impulsive Toxicant Input on a Single-Species Population in a Small Polluted Environment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In this paper, we study a single-species population model with pulse toxicant input to a small polluted environment. The intrinsic rate of population is affected by environment and toxin in organisms. The toxin in organisms is influenced by toxin in environment and the food chain. A new mathematical model is derived.

Measurement of Botulinum Toxin Activity: Evaluation of the Lethality Assay

open access: yesToxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1994
The use of the mouse lethality assay for the estimation of the biologic activity of botulinum toxin was evaluated. The relationship between the number of animals, number of doses, and duration of the assay used to estimate the LD50 and the precision of the assay was investigated.

Morphometric‐Assisted Prediction of Developmental Toxicity Using Stem Cell‐Based Embryo Models in Microwells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This proof‐of‐concept study involves high‐throughput teratogenicity screening of compounds using XEn/EpiCs, a 3D stem cell‐based embryo model, within microwells. The term ‘morphotoxicity’ is introduced to complement traditional cytotoxicity assays through automated feature extraction and machine‐learning‐assisted classification of morphologies.

Lethality and synthetic lethality in the genome-wide metabolic network of Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Theor. Biol. 237, 401 (2005), 2004
Recent genomic analyses on the cellular metabolic network show that reaction flux across enzymes are diverse and exhibit power-law behavior in its distribution. While one may guess that the reactions with larger fluxes are more likely to be lethal under the blockade of its catalyzing gene products or gene knockouts, we find, by in silico flux analysis,

HGF/c‐Met Axis‐Targeted Nanotherapy via GSH‐Responsive Polymer Platforms Suppresses Uveal Melanoma Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
To suppress uveal melanoma metastasis (UM), the GSH‐responsive polymer named NP@Oxa/Criz has been successfully prepared. NP@Oxa/Criz selectively accumulates in UM tumors, targeting HGF/c‐Met Axis to undermine the stemness and metastasis of UM while triggering immunogenic cell death through DAMPs release to boost anti‐tumor immunity.
